If I put aftermarket A-arms on my 86 frame that are 1" forward and then get an aftermarket swing arm that is 1" shorter like the 88-89 swingarm, will I then get the same stance from my 86 frame as the 88-89 frame with the shortened swingarm, or are there still some major frame dimension differences. Ive got the +1 front A-arms but still using my stock 86 swingarm. Seems to be a bit long in the woods.

This is the exact same set up I have on my 86. 1" forward arms and a 89 length swing arm. Wheel base wise yes you should have the same dimensions. I didn't think the -1 swing arm would make a huge difference but it did. I like it a lot as its easier for me to whip the rear end around on the track.

I don't think you would need 1 inch forward arms to make the wheel base the same.86/87 had a 51 inch wheel base and the 88/89 had 49.8 wheel base.I think the 1 inch forward for the 88/89 is another internet myth.
