Title: Mac's 2014 LSR Build.
Post by: Mac on December 09, 2014, 01:17:43 PM
Whats up. Im Mac and this is my first ever 250R build. I have always wanted an R, its been a dream of mine since i was a little kid especially after watching all those huevos VHS tapes growing up. (Im 20 years old) (huevos 3,4,5 were my favorite) The motivation to get one came a couple years ago when i was looking for a friends dirt-bike on CL.
I stumbled across a really beat up R that i went for fun to go look at. The guy of course wanted way too much for a beat up R. So I have looked for about 2 years for a nice used one on craigslist but always ran into crap quads and sketchy people. After all the fuss and looking. I have decided to buckle down and build my dream machine since i have been saving like crazy and learned a lot from all you guys here on the web. plus i dont have any doubts that you guys wouldn't help me if I need some help.

Also by watching all you guys build up such beautiful machines, without a doubt motivated me to put my all into this project to make it the best i can.

So I went ahead and purchased a 2014 LSR MX Pro-Peg Chassis

I thought i would be playing it safe by buying new to avoid issues. I have always had bad luck with used stuff. I dont know what it is.
Somethings just never work out in my favor.
I order the chassis on 9/24/14. LSR tells me, 4-6 weeks, it will be done. 7 weeks goes by. Nothing. I called, It got delayed, ok thats fine.
I just received the chassis yesterday. 12/8/14. That was fine by me, i was in no rush as-long as everything is straight, powder the right color, and nothing is broken/bend.

Let me first say, the frame looks amazing. The powdercoat is on point!

BUT, a few issues come up... sadly a nightmare is coming alive. (http://www.trx250r.net/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif)

- Sub-frame bent slightly and the sub-frame mounts are bent bad.. (pics below)
- My AC front bumper doesn't fit.. (idk if its the frame or the bumper)
- My AC rear bumper doesn't fit..  (idk if its the frame or the bumper)

Hopefully i will get to the bottom of this tomorrow when i call LSR.

I will keep you guys updated!! Im trying to stay positive and not flip out.

My build plans.

MX Build.
- Polished billet parts.
- Carbon fiber hood
- Lots of LSR stuff...
- LSR +3+1 a arms LT (which i have, atm stripping them for chrome)
- LSR +4 axle
- Axis or PEP LT suspension...
- 265cc, 36mm carb, ported for low to mid.
- 20s in the front, 18s in the rear.

That's so sad. I hope they'll make good and fix it. You must have been heartbroken.
Just a small bump in the road though. You'll have many more before you're riding. Good luck and have fun building.

They had better fix that frame free of cost to you.

There was a guy not too long ago that bought a brand new LSR frame and when he set it on the ground the bottom 2 frame rails weren't even sitting flat on the ground. Not sure about LSR's quality control, but the one LSR frame I had was built well

I bought the frame because i have heard good things about LSR and one of my friends has a chassis from them and he loves it. Im praying that they take it back and fix it for free. Im just a kid making minimum wage. It took forever to save for this. I would hate to have to pay to fix something that should of been correct the first time.

Welcome to our forum. Its great to see the new guys with a dream to concentrate on. Is this frame aluminum? Was just wondering since the color of the tabs is real silver and the bend in the tubing looks like aluminum bends under the blue PC. Sorry you got screwed and I don't see how its gonna get fixed very easy. I don't work with PC for these reasons. Are you sure its a 250R frame? If you want dimensions for the distance between mounting holes I always have 4 bare frames sitting around I can get you the  correct measurements.

So what did LS say?

So what did LS say?

Lonestar put in a damage claim into UPS. Lonestar said that it didnt leave the shop like that soo it must of been damaged during the shipping process. The box that it came in was damaged to some degree when i received it soo im pretty sure it was UPS that damaged the frame, not lonestar. Lonestar said they would take it back and fix it once UPS came to inspect the box and to take a look at the frame. I hope this doesn't take like 2 months to get fixed.

Stay on top of it, Call UPS making sure they need to take care of this inspection. tell them you have a dead line to meet Time is Money and your losing money due to them Tossing your package.

Call UPS & FEDEX ask them if they have Handling care options. maybe LSR can add this option even if you have to cover that cost will be worth it.

UPS insurance does not work if there is less than 2" of insulation coating the frame. If LSR sent it without 2" of packaging they will have to fix at there own expense. Make sure they pay for the shipping IMO. Sorry you have to go through this chit. IMO Fedex is the only way to go. I used the same box for 2 frames and they are both perfect.

Ok thats good to know. I didnt know thats how UPS insurance works. Well it looks like LSR will be paying for it all on their own. There was like 1" on insulation. I always use FedEx for anything i ship out. They do a good job. And yea im not paying for the shipping on the way back to LSR. Thats on them. They messed it up. They fix it. Its a shame that nothing ever goes to plan for me. I guess i just have bad luck.

Update!

So its been a month and I haven't heard anything from UPS. I called them to see when they were coming to pick up the frame. UPS claims that no damage claim was ever submitted for my frame from Lonestar. (Lonestar told me that they submitted a damage claim back in Dec.) So I submitted a claim right there and they are coming to pick it up on Monday.

I called Lonestar right away to tell them that UPS didnt have any records of the claim that they said they filed for me back in December and that i submitted a claim. Lonestar said they were sorry and told me UPS has always given them problems with claims and shipping. They said they would make it up to me and makes sure my frame gets pushed to the front of the list to get fixed and that I would have it back within 2-3 weeks. They are paying for everything. No expense to me. Thank god lol

Lets hope it doesn't get damaged this time around UPS LOL

Update! #2

So i have been talking to the LSR and they are very cool and taking care of my frame no cost to me.
But of course UPS is fighting the claim i made... I should have my frame back to me in two weeks or so.

Trust me, I freaked out before. Im beyond pissed and Im giving them one more chance to fix it (not saying it wasn't fixed at LSR shop) and get it back to me with no problems like this or i will be getting a partial refund soo i can send it to a local shop to fix the bends and get it re-powdered.
I love the color and the powder is amazing, except for that little spot near the bent piece.

3mon later and 2 bent frames. i dont even know what to say. root of the problem is lsr doesnt package it correct. needs to be in some type of reinforced crate. wood, metal or other wise.  was thinking of doing a lsr myself but i couldnt handle going through this same bs

If lsr will be giving you a partial refund to take it to a local powder coater i would do that for sure! Whoever is doing the PC for lsr is doing a really crappy job! Properly applied PC should not flake off. I've sprayed test pieces of metal in the past where I was able to bend the metal complete back on itself and it did not chip, crack, or flake. Its all in the prep work. I've seen it before. Powder looks good but once it gets dinged it will endlessly flake off. Talk to your PC guy and ask what he does for prep work before you give him your frame to do. Post back here and lll let you know of he's doing the proper prep work to make the PC last like it should

Honestly now i dont know who to blame. I think its a combination of both LSR and UPS. I mean like, LSR doesnt have the best packing skills and UPS throws the boxes around soo its both of their faults i would say. The box was damaged to some degree and the frame could of used more foam to protect it. I just want my frame not damaged so i can start the build...
