After I got it I noticed it had a pump gas dome. I bought a race gas  dome for it and installed it. It didnt seem to have near the power i  thought a race gas 110 should have. I did a comp test and I was right  haha! Only 100psi. Yes that would do it! I got the engine bored, 2 sizes  over and spent a small fortune on the ESR piston and was back in  action. The guy that did the bore said it looked like it had been run  for a long time worn out and that was probably why the cyl was beat up  so much and needed to go 2 sizes over. Who knows lol. Its back running  right, that's l I really care about

I picked up a set of stage 3's
And a set of 4-1 reinforced front wheels.
That in itself was a pretty bad ordeal and I kind of lost my ass in that  deal. I waited over a month before I messed with the front wheels and  found out they were NOT 4-1's like I was told! Oh well. You win some and  you loose some. In the end I decided to keep and run the shocks. They  need redone so I will send them out some time in the next few weeks.

The weekend after I got the engine together I went riding with my two  girls (14 and 10). I went off a small jump and my throttle  stuck.....wide open! Yea that didn't end well! And the worst part about  it was that nobody saw it! Haha. I think the quad might have done a back  flip! Ha I hit the ground pretty hard.

I drove it back to then parking lot with a nice headache and only 3 turning wheels haha(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff335/dem3500/TRX250R/IMG_20141109_133243245_zps3ttvvpjl.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/dem3500/media/TRX250R/IMG_20141109_133243245_zps3ttvvpjl.jpg.html)

So I had plenty of bent and broke stuff but that's the name of  the game so I decided to upgrade the spindles and brakes. I got a set of  450r spindles, brakes, and LSR billet hubs. I also broke the rear grab  bar off and bent the front bumper. I rewelded the front bumper where it  cracked from pulling it back straight. I also rewelded the grab bar but  decided to go a different route. My garbage mad buddy found this grab  bar in the trash. It didn't fit so I cut it all apart and rewelded it to  fit. Yes....I weld a lot of stuff! I enjoy welding haha. I find every  excuse I can to weld something. I also finally decided on a color. I did  not want a red frame and I didn't really want to strip the red  anodizing on all the nice ESR parts. I finally decided on goldtastic  from prismatic powders. I do all my own powder coating. Same with the  welding, I PC just about everything I can get my hands on! Haha.(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff335/dem3500/TRX250R/IMG_20141217_202758682_zpsnetsbr5c.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/dem3500/media/TRX250R/IMG_20141217_202758682_zpsnetsbr5c.jpg.html)

This is a better pic of the gold. Synthetic light sucks for a lot of cors especially metallics.

The frame is going to be gold with a clear coat, same as the bumper and  grab bar. The nerfs, wheels, and upper arms are going to be black with a  gold pearl clear coat. I donr have anything sprayed with the black yet.
I think I'm pretty much cought up to this week at least.

and here is where the real fun begins!
I bought a set of Rath 450r nerfs with heel guards.  These things are made real well. I was surprised about the quality. Very  nice for sure. They took a little more work than I expected to get  fitted but was all good in the end. dont mind the crappy white PC. that will all be taken care of!(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff335/dem3500/TRX250R/IMG_20141217_234114262_HDR_zpsd78btbpg.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/dem3500/media/TRX250R/IMG_20141217_%3Cbr%20/%3EJust%20placed%20to%20see%20how%20they%20will%20fit.%20Nothing%20is%20holding%20them%20on%20at%20the%20moment%3Cbr%20/%3E[URL=http://s537.photobucket.com/user/dem3500/media/TRX250R/IMG_20141217_234114262_HDR_zpsd78btbpg.jpg.html)
I cut off the existing peg mount

1" od tube is what would fit in the nerfs. I ended up grabbing  some 3/4" black pipe from the hardware store. It was a little bit bigger  than 1" but some time with the flapper wheel I got it down so it would  fit the nerfs. Getting it to fit through the frame was a little bit  harder. There's a reinforcing sleeve inside on both side. (im sure most of you all know this already lol....im new! leave me alone haha) All I did was  spend some time with the die grinder so I could slide the pipe through.  Not difficult but took a bit of time to finish.

A pic of the sleeve on the left side. The right side sleeve was a little bit deeper.

I made lots of progress today. I finished tearing down the the  bare frame despite the frozen swing arm bolt. A bit of heat and some  patients did the job. I was about to cut it until I saw the price of a  new one lol. I took a half hour and got it out in one piece.

While I was waiting for the swingarm to cool back down I did some  repairing and beefing up of the upper motor mount. It was almost cracked  all the way around on one end. I didn't like the small welds holding  the tabs on so I added some of my own.
(http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff335/dem3500/TRX250R/IMG_20141226_145736298_HDR_zpsfrrrzsto.jpg) (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/dem3500/media/TRX250R/IMG_20141226_145736298_HDR_zpsfrrrzsto.jpg.html)

I wanted the tab to be welded all the way around also

I wanted to get all the welding I could done. I can't get my frame to the sand blaster till next week.
I wanted to beef up where the heel guards attache to the rear sub. I  didnt want to pinch the hollow tube with a bolt so I took some 1/2"  solid round bar and drilled a small center hole through and welded it  through the frame. That should work for some beefy mounts!

it looks like the back side of the clutch gear. my guess is its only rubbing when the kicker is being used. ill tear it apart tomorrow and get a closer look.

Mine shows those same rubs marks too. I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as all bearing are tight on the clutch basket.

Looks like you've got a very good start to an XC build. Awesome fab skills too!

Kind of what I was thinking. It looks like its lightly rubbing. If it were rubbing while the engine was running there would probably be a lot more damage. & thanks lol!

Yeah, they pretty much all have those marks. Just could not tell if that was a sliver of aluminum in the pic or just a silver scratch. Really like how you reinforced the frame for the heel bucket mount.

Ok! These guys took me the better part of the day to do. The gold inlay is the same gold that I'm doing my frame. Its kind of hard to see the gold pearl clear but its there. Next time the sun decides to come out I'll try to get a better pic. The clutch cover is still baking but as soon as its out I'll snap a couple of pics.

Yes. I would say very professional looking. They look so bad azz I am sure everyone will be impressed. I doubt you will be wrecking your bike anytime soon after spending countless hours on attention to detail.

Haha yea its mostly a hobby. I do a paid job here and there but that's about it. Nothing that I can quit my day job for. My oven is a little over 5' wide. Me and 2 buddy's built it. I PC everything i can get my hands on! Haha!!
And thanks! The covers took me hrs to finish but are worth it in the end.

Thanks! And most likely I will wreck it! Haha I wreck everything! Haha after the first ding or scratch it just gets easier haha. But yea I'll try to make it last a little while before I smash it! Hopefully the nerfs take most of the beating in the woods, and the skid plates which I still need to buy. There on "the list"!

Thanks! I really wish you guys could see the powder for what it really looks like. Damn floresent light sucks! The side covers took me most of the day to do. The inlays were a pain in the rest end! But, out of the struggle came a new process that is super quick to do and the results are about as good as can be! So of course now that I can do the inlays I want to do more and none of my buddies have any projects going on lol. Heck if anybody has any broken covers off any engine just so I can play with let me know. I'll pay for shipping. I'd like to have more stuff to hang on my garage wall.
The Nerf bars were a lot more work that I had anticipated. Oh well, live and learn although I am pretty damn happy with the finished product!

Oh! And I'm glad you think I know what I'm doing! I'm getting pretty good at APLEARING that way!! Haha bit really though, thanks for the compliments!

Everything looks so good, that Gold frame speaks to me!!!! And yes, you look like you know what your doing!

I do have an issue though, it's those plastics.. Can you powder coat them white? :D

If not, and you plan to keep, I've had success with wet sanding and using one of those headlight lens cleaner kits with the sponge drill bit thing..

Post by: dem3500 on January 09, 2015, 05:08:02 AM
Yea the plastics are kinda ugly. I want some fill fender fronts so I may end up buying some. I'm not too sure. They get scratched up om the side from my boots so that would be an waste of time to try to fix. The other areas I will try to fix with some went sanding and polish. I have some novus so I'll give that a try first.

i also found out that i wasnt paying attention when i bought my DWT beadlock rear wheels. there 8". not 9" like i need. i also spent way too much money to have them stripped so i could match the color. ill probably end up spraying them black again and try to sell them. oh well, you win some and you loose some!
