Title: UPP intake does not fit
Post by: dem3500 on January 07, 2015, 11:28:46 AM
so i bought an UPP manifold labeled for 38mm intake. i have a 38 airstriker and the boot is way too big. i measured the id of the boot at 44mm and the od of my carb is 42mm. (and i did verify the id of the carb is 38mm) i got it off ebay and have been back and fourth with the seller and i get a lot of strange questions so it is obvious to me this guy doesnt know anything about the product. he asked me for my vin so he could verify the year. strange question but in the end he said send it back and he will reference it off another and send me one that fits. so my question is: is this manifold packaged wrong or am i misunderstanding how to pick out the right manifold?

The Part# is correct....it is bit large (44mm) for a carb that is 42mm......Was your Carb bored ?

42mm for a 38mm Bore will only leave a 2mm wall ? Something is fishy..... I'm thinking your carb is a 34mm that was bored to a 38mm bore....I'll measure my Stock carb when I get home for comparison.

:(

Yea 2mm wall. Its a carb that came with an ESR 310 kit. I did get it second hand so I should do a double check on the carb pn but I did measure the I'd and the carb is a 38. Doesn't look bored but I'll dig into it more

That's the UPP part # I used for my 38MM PWK on my recent build. I think the problem might be on the carb side

OK well I'll double check tonight. Although its still possible the intake got packaged wrong cause I really don't think my carb was bored. What I really need is somebody that has the same intake to measure the I'd if they happen to have the carb off there bike

Well hopefully I'll get it figured out one way or the other. The guy did tell me to send it back and he will find one that fits. But I'd really rather found out what the actual problem is. If its my fault I don't want to do it again lol

sometimes  the OD of the carb is been machined to fit the factory boot. I would guess that this is what has been done to the carb you have.

It sounds like the intake side of your carburetor may have been machine down, Eddie does this from time to time to fit stock intake boots upon request, It wouldn't hurt to compare it to a another 38 airstriker.

Yes it looks like it has been machine down for a stock intake boot....
