After riding last weekend and fouling a new plug, I decided I should change my pilot jet :)
I know it's nothing kewl....But maybe you guys did! So please share :)
-
adjusted the floats as rsss396 suggested and checked all my grounds for a clean/rust free connection. also, modified my new swinger for a chain slider and have it at powder coater; almost forgot, having my shocks serviced. itching to ride i must say.

Thought about it sitting in the the toy hauler in the storage yard. Looked on Powder By The Pound for something that matches what I want to do.
Does that count?
-
Re-seated the beads on my HiPers, both front were leaking but now i've got em nice and even and torqued properly.
Next is to figure out why my shift shaft seal is leaking tranny oil like a sieve. Brand new seal and no wear grooves in the shaft?????
-

May be just a bad seal from the git go?? Mine leaks also...but it was a used motor.

Sure does! Lol

Got bearings in my cases, assembling the trans while waiting on parts from Honda.

Is the shift shaft bent? If you put a new seal in try putting sealer in the boss before you install the seal into it.
-

here it is. pic isnt great but the welds or ok.haha

All I did was order some new Steamline brake lines and a TM Designworks Super Protector for the 86's new +4 swingarm. I have been thinking about machining my own swingarm guard out of Delrin though... Maybe this weekend, I can have the 330R and 450R up and going.

I had one do that. My problem was the hole was egged out where the shift actually comes thru the case. New seal would not fix this even with some sealer on it. The shift shaft would move around too much in it's bore. I took a good punch when the seal was removed and peened around the shift shaft on the aluminum to tighten it up. If that makes sense. It worked for me.
-
Yes, that makes sense. You cold formed the egg shape back to round to support the shift shaft. If the surface the seal goes into is broken or has been repaired the seal just spreads the crack open allowing the thin tranny oil to come through. Sometimes can be fixed, but sometimes the motor has to come out.
-
I just received my new chain slide, lower slide and new case saver and chain. All of which were destroyed last weekend when the chain slide jammed between the front sprocket, chain and case saver. Bent the lower case saver bolt but cracks the case!! Sooooo close to cracking case holes for the case saver bolts. Hopefully the new one piece will do better than the jaws style that wraps around the swing arm.
So now time to assemble and get ready for Silver Lake on the 27-28.
-
I just looked mine over trying to determine what the best color combos would be for when i powder coat everything this winter. Its taking a great deal of patience for me not to tear this thing down now. She runs fantastic and i need to ride her while it ri
ding season imo

Still fighting ignition issues. It runs fine, I put the oem back in. It pulls the same times with the oem that it pulls with the CR, but I only use 2nd 3rd and 4th with the oem, I have to hit 5th right before the finishline with the CR. I think the CR spins it out with so much mid/top hit, and the traction (from lack of power) with the oem makes up the difference so the times stay the same. Paddles on the way tho!!
-
Well sinse I rode the other R today I figured I'd give this one some jewelry lol put the hardkore brake cover on...
Jon I might need a blue rotator clamp with that black lever...
Getting real close to putting on my duncan cover that I got over a year ago lol just need some nice bolts for the nacs water pump cover...
-
i fired my Saber after a 2 year build!!!! It felt AWESOME!!!!
-
Moved my motor build off my main work bench and put it off to the side work bench..having to work on my shop sucks
to had I cant just leave all my toy projects in there. Need a bigger shop!
-
got my new swinger set up with the modification to fit a chain slider.

-
Installed new crank seals, put in new OEM counterbalancer with Hinson bearing holder (thankfully I checked it), assembled clutch and kicker and installed a CR250 ignition.
-
Just got the water pump squared away, now off to the hardware store for some bolts...
-
Looks good Sam,so do your nails!..HAHAHA
I got my nerf bars and few other things polished. Made another trip to Ace hardware for stainless bolt and some stainless polishing compound.
-
put on fresh serviced shocks and new swinger. tested her out and a -1 swinger thats 10lbs lighter made a nice overall improvement.

That's slick John!
Is this your trail quad?
-
That's slick John!
Is this your trail quad?
yes. i put that thing through mountain bike and horse trails by my home. that -1 made me weave through at a faster pace and i can pop the front up easier to get over rocks and logs. it was a worthwhile upgrade.

At 4:30 this afternoon old girl was a race ready deamon. Now she just sits as a roller, engine out, crankcases split and waiting for new crank bearings! It's a very sad site
-
ordered a 38mm kehin airstryker.

Took some of the engine apart awaiting new parts......Should have a rebuilt counterbalancer here tomorrow......also installed Neil's clutch mod.....and my cylinder should be here tomorrow from RB racing...cant wait to see how a well ported 250 runs!!!!!
-
Put on a new to me swinger I bought from 2strokefan years ago on the other site. Bearings were out of the stock 88 one and never liked mx'ing the stock 88-89 swingers. Now I need to put my +2 stem on and a new clutch.
-
I worked on a R today...but I wont say which one :)
-
fixed the coolant lines on the ATC500R, had some issues last time she was out. Watching the tracking info on my rebuilt rear shock from Suspension101 as it's shipped back from CA to my home in STL.
-
Installed my rebuilt counterbalancer and put clutch cover back on. Cylinder MIGHT be here tomorrow....not sure...WOW that old bearing must have been wasted. I had alot of play in it. The new bearing is tight as can be....
-
Installed a pair of Yfz shocks I had laying around since my Works are due for a rebuild and I got hosed on a set of axis.
-
Put the carrier in the swingarm and learned that my rotor guard won't fit over my RPM carrier.
-
^^ bummer!
-
Swapped out the stock airbox with an aluminum unit yesterday then sat back and stared at it for a few minutes. Sexy!
-
Nothing done to mine in months. Its sitting in storage. I do have the engine sitting in my garage. I can't decide what to do with my cylinder so it just sits.
-
Installing this tonight!

Rebuild the water pump and got the main bearings out of the cases.........now I wait for new main bearings and seals to get here.

Finally after 2 uears I put on my dirtfirst grabbar lol still going to weld a tab for a flag mount...
And also put on the stickers from crankit...
And got the magura clutch working too!!

Ordered a new clutch cable and a few little odd's and end's. My pile of parts is slowly growing, hopefully start rebuilding her soon.
-
I cussed one of my "R's" this weekend... just waiting for some answers so i can open my wallet... again.
-
Figured out the no spark on my 88. Bad wire end on the green wire that hooks to your coil. Then I swung a leg over her and made her pay for failing me.:highly_amused:
-
Finished up with the stem, swingarm, cluth lever.etc. Also got my spark back again.

got a tool box to mount; just need to get some longer chrome bolts.
john
-
Drained all the distilled water out of my system. Might put some actual coolant in it if I want to ride this winter
Decided to hold off putting the graphics on my Laker fenders until I get full fendered Meiers or Fullbores (ya right). I'll be selling the Lakers most likely
-
I cleaned the trailer a bit and turned the quads sideways so I could get to my toolbox easier and work on my truck yesterday. I will wash the lsr since I got her all dirty and polish her all back up for the winter sit.
-
Put my 88 and 89 on my storage rack along with my Dad's 88 after I winterized them. My brother's 450 will be up there next week after a oil change...silly 4 strokes. I kept the other wheeler's down to work on them over winter and ride one of them on the winter trails.
-
I know I've said it 10 times lol but tomorrow I am going to attemp installation of my duncan cover lol.
I heard a new noise last week which sounded like it was coming from the front of the motor, almost the pipe. So I have a spare balancer an hinson timing holder also.
I have a manual...but I might post questions too lol
-
I messed with some parts did a little polishing on some parts for some friends R's and worked on the cabnets for the trailer.
-
Looked at mine in the garage still covered in mud freezing my ass of lol
-
Put on my PEP front shocks, new rear sprocket, new rear wheels and tires and a few other piddly things.
-
Put the new radiator on the crf if that counts :D
-
Thought I heard a new noise from the motor last weekend. What I really like is the "fix" for the long bolt on the balancer holder. Just stuff a bolt in their...
-
ordered a new front bumper.
john
-
What'd you get?
-
sent my crank off with my brother to have the new proX rod pressed into the stock cr500 crank. last tuesday I shipped off my cases to Adam Millar at MRE to have the TWIRP port job started on. Hope to have this R back up and running around 1st of the year if things go smooth
-
Nothing............waiting on parts to get shipped in from the west coast. Damn weather has them running behind.
-
Pulled Duncan motor out of my 88 so I can put it in my project 87. Put project 87 motor in my 88 as it will be my trailrider and it is the only motor I have that doesn't need race gas. Twisted off exhaust manifold bolt and had to drill/tap it out. Smashed my middle finger on my left hand in the process. Also put a new chain slider on my 88.....was not one on it when I bought it.

Sounds like a good productive day but bad on the fingers. Atleast you have a warm shop to work in bud.
-
Saturday i started tear down on my wifes 86....Lots of cleaning to do there. I dont think this thing has ever been taken apart fully(frame is painted but very poorly, im pretty sure it was taped off). I cant even budge the nut on the swinger bolt by hand, Air will come in handy.
-

Yes I don't know how I ever got anything done in my gagage by my house....no heat or insulation. Ran a turbo heater and froze! Been letting my Labs stay in the shop overnight because I feel bad for them out in the cold.

started prepping my cases for the new Hot Rods crank and full bottom end rebuild. Still have to remove all paint and repaint (going with the dark silver color). Dropping cylinder piston and dome for bore hone and reshape. Gotta swing by to have a bad repair fixed on my left case tomorrow. during the engine rebuild phase I am going to rearrange my modifications to my 86 frame and the rear engine mounts.
-
Are you going to do the 02 cr Higgy?
No, I found a 01 Cr250 ignition. I got everything mounted today except for the CDI. I gotta figure out how I'm gonna secure it down to the frame!

Let's see, I have been testing get stators. Messed up the flywheel nut and the threads on the crank, will be fixed today. Got a esr cr adapter plate so I hope to be getting the whole ignition installed when the plate comes in. Took the stator covers off both R's to re polish them. And I will update when I have other things I have done getting closer to the July silver lake trip.
-
mounted a rebuilt rear i bought off ebay. springs black just like my fronts
really coming together, yesterday i dropped off a radiator to get it welded on..

Got my new radiator in and my LSR fatbar clamps on also!(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/475_30_2017-04-18_1790.jpg)

i have not done business with MRE, but i almost had him do a decomp head for me. from what ive seen those guys can probably do good work..
-
Tell me about it jon, I want my shocks done, my asv levers, my seat cover, front rims and tires, and my +2+1 Walsh stem chrome and fat bar clamp.
-
i have not done business with MRE, but i almost had him do a decomp head for me. from what ive seen those guys can probably do good work..
no probably about it. MRE did the decomp head i have and it is freaking perfect. The pics of work i have seen posted online for the TWIRP port jobs i am having done is immaculate. Cant say enough good things about MRE, Adam has been awesome to do business with so far and spends anytime you need texting and talking over the phone
-
I skipped the decompression valve and my exhaust port bridge was scalloped correctly. Kicks perfect. Too many old 5 hundred bottom end s trashed from over bores and no trim work. Ever seen one that would be fine if the kicker held up? What's this TWIRP?
-
Seems all I get to do to mine is look at it this weekend. Freezing rain and rain and more rain don't make for good riding....Should have a couple parts showing up hopefully so I can at least work on it a little
-
Was looking up Rs on Craigslist. Gotta get me one soon, dont need a clapper though so I gotta be patient
-

Put axle, brake hub, axle nut, hubs, tires on. Rebuilt the rear caliper and bled the brakes. All done to my 88 roller.
-
I bought new nickel plated adapters, hose fittings, hose clamps and steel braided lines for my Afco radiator!! What a pain in the ASS!! Recieved my ROLL DESIGN mastercylinder cover that I've been trying to get for 3 years!!!! I'm stoked!! Merry X-mas to me, lol!! -
Removed the no-link swinger so i can get rotor guard mounts welded on it. Sent my rear shock out to GThunder. My LED 350 Sphynx is out for nikasil, so I should have that soon!
Sister bought a mint 05 450r so i've been going over that as well
-
Put new ODI grips on, black Renthal fat bars and bar pad, ESR black temp gauge and black exhaust flange, spring for seat knobs, broke a zerk off so took the lower a-arm off and put a new one in then re-installed it, got top motor mount shaved down to fit my frame and installed, Laeger narrow skidplate fabbed up and installed. Re-packing my LRD silencer and adjusting my pipe to fit the offset no-link shock tomorrow. Also turning down some extra tie rods that will use brand new stock ends.
-
noticed my frame was twisted from a tumble down a hill so all other projects get postponed for now. plus two of my renters havent paid their bill so i cant even shop for a frame yet. wtf!
john
-
Entered negotiation on a part ive been searching for, for what seems like forever. Now planning on how to hide the $ sparingly so my wife does not see a big chunk go missing from our funds. picking up a new FWC hood and tank cover. This is all for my "finished bike"
Got my wifes bike half nude, until i was frozen, this was last weekend. Then on Christmas i got my much desired shop heater! That bike is getting butt naked tomorrow(pending i can get this swinger off)!
-
Picked up a set of Roll XC's and a new Roll extended stem.
Dropped the LSR frame with JB Racing for CRF/TRX450 mods and fresh powder.
Disassembled my first Arens build.
Getting a pile of parts ready for powder.
-
Put the back end together on my trailrider. Noticed oil leaking from the motor so I pulled that back out.
-
I did nothing to mine, other than buying some Atv Four Play Soft Bars.
-
I recently purchased these shamrocks. can't sleep so I guess I'm going to clean them up.

This last Saturday I finished up with my frame motor mount modifications, putting my freshly rebuilt engine back in, front wheel bearings and swapping the paddles out for dirt tires I started the bike for the first time in over a year. I took her for a spin down the street on Sunday morning and continue to break it in daily so I can rip on her soon. starting to do the layout and design for fabricating up some extended a-arms.
-
i've never heard of them before now. They look cool from the glimpse I just took, similar to flexx bars?
Pretty much, once I get them I will investigate more on the similarities and differences.
-
I did nothing to mine, other than buying some Atv Four Play Soft Bars.
smallest bar pad ever! Not sure I like them or not...rode my buddies once that had em.

Yeah Ive heard the same thing, reviews said once you get used to them you wont want anything else, guess we will see. For what I have in them Im not loosing anything.

Put the motor back in,new pipe on,new ESR exhaust flange, used silencer, used tank and greased everything. Almost ready to hit the snomobile trails. Need to install a headlight, tailight and 4Snow tires. Just a little quick rebuild and check over on it just got it in October.

yes, apparently there are no TRXs around Houston or TX in general - they are either 1) beat to hell, 2) 86 models, or 3) crazy expensive. My last 4 race quads have been from Minnesota, New Jersey, NY, and this one is in Las Vegas. its kinda sketchy throwing down $$ for a quad unseen in person, but so far its worked out
:biggrin-new:

After leaving my wife's gutted 86 trx outside under a tarp for the last 7 shameful months I finally finished the inside of my little shop & was able to put it inside under lock & key.
-
Got my frame back from my welder, as soon as my arms show up I will drop a whole load of part to powder!

Pulled my engine. Getting ready to ship.

took all the rubbers off the wifes 86 frame, cleaned up a bunch of parts on it(i dont think the swingarm or the frame under it was ever cleaned), seprated aarms, spindles, hubs. Organized the shed and all the parts i have laying around in it so i could get my R back from the inlaws barn. Went and picked it up, then spent an hr cleaning up the front end...man was it bad from the last rainy ride at the dunes october 31st...i slacked hard....i know. probably blew off a gallon of sand. Getting excited to pick up the 89 frame and get painting!
-
went riding yesterday. I let me brother in law-to-be ride the 310. Made it 40 seconds in to the ride before dumped the bike at speeds and busted my OEM 86 headlight and bent one of my ITP baja wheels. Atleast the R33 durablue axle survived lol
-
O that sucks Jason!
-
Got all of my polished stuff back from Jamie so I put all of it on. Throttle cover, front m/c cap, rear m/c guard, IMS/Roll shifter, Hinson pedal and Baldwin hubs. Probably cut my fenders sometime soon.

Where's your motor headed? And more importantly, whats happening with it? Dont forget to pull the drain plug out before packing it up
-
Too dang cold to do anything with the quad. However, being cooped up gave me a chance to square away the motor. I'm getting the bottom end taken care of locally so it won't be shipping out. What was done to the R? I worked out the build with Arlan. The LED order looks very similar to what TBone just received for his "LED 350 Sphynx XC Build" with the main difference being that I didn't go as big and ordered a 300PV instead.
-
My above post was unclear. I drove it around in the back of the truck! At these times I wish I had a flat bed. Hell, I think I'll go load it up now!!!
Did get my new trans oil and clutch cable in. Gonna lube it up shortly and get it installed.

Got the swing arm off my wife's 86. I ended up cutting it out with a stihl hot saw........:victorious:
Actually I used a 4" grinder with a cutoff wheel, worked great. Getting a swing arm bolt from pumashine & a bearing kit from turftamer, after that a serious cleaning, inspection & reassembly & it'll be ready to live. We got it in june last year & haven't ridden it yet. The previous owner hadn't ridden it since 2008 so my ocd kicked in & I had to tear it down to the frame to check it out prior to it's first ride & it's a good thing I did, on 5 of the a-arm bolts I removed the nuts by hand:neglected:.... & it's not because I'm super strong.
-
Finally caught a break with the weather. Got the OEM clutch basket gear off and installed it on my Hinson, installed all the transmission bearings and seals. Next up is crank bearing and seals.
If this break in the weather continues I might have the motor together sooner than expected
-
Started paintin coats on my stroker bottom end so I can slap on my new esr 330. Also tore my carb apart for a good cleaning.
-
Starting to tear her down. Gettin a new paint job on the frame and swinger.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/355_568_2017-04-18_3301.jpg)

Aberegg, she's dirty. It's gonna be fun getting it all cleaned up for new paint/powder.
On another note, I picked up a gt thunder skid for mine and a propane heater to help keep warm so I can get my projects completed.
-
I have a turbo heater in the garage and yes she is dirty. Ill be giving her a good cleaning after she's tore down. I'm droppin in a freshly built esr330 +4after I'm done.
-
Getting my 86 together. Well, I've been doing a little just about every day for the past month or so. As of today its about 90% done. Going to try and fire her up in the next day or two.

Been stripping paint here and there for about a week and finally getting somewhere. Doing all this work to fix a crack, install gusset kit and powder coat frame.

Today I did the petcock mod. Bored out all spouts, bored out the cap vent hole (both sides) and cut the tab off to run "on" and "reserve" at the same time. Also cleaned up the front 13 tooth to put on in place of the 14 tooth.
-
Ok i finally got some motivation with the nice 55° weather we had today. I tried a few more things on spiritaces spiritshine build with the cr ignition. But still no spark, so I took that off and I will try my good stock ignition to fire her up. I also popped out my junk ball joints on the walsh preparing for my new ones done by white chassis. I also got my polished front and rear calipers back together and ready to install on the lsr. Gonna get a throttle polished by race reflections and have him finish my lsr rear hubs too and then the lsr will be done for now. Until I get the money up for a 370 4 mil spynx motor for the dunes for her.
And I'm trying to figure out if I want any colors on my seat cover from fourwerx or just do a jet trim seat cover. And then my +2+1 chrome stem for the walsh and my shocks. Lots to do and the new job is helping a ton.
-
I spent way too much time trying to get my front brakes from sticking so I replaced both cailpers with some nice 89 take offs. Then I took the old R out for a quick spin in the woods. Half frozen mud makes for some fun riding conditions!

duff man those graphics are ****in sick dude!! domt wana copy you but i want those one day!! very nice

Washed the R from the races this weekend, changed the oil, cleaned and oiled both filters, put a new B8ES plug in, cleaned and lubed chain, checked coolant (no loss), polished both sides of front and rear fenders, polished wheels, lightly polished the motor and pipe, lubed cables. Pretty much got it ready to race March 22nd at Podium One Motoplex for the start of the Crosley outdoor mx series. Probably wash the truck today and check all the bolts front to back on the R so all I have to do is load up and roll out.
-
I looked at my '86 on the stands waiting for me to replace the piston in it while I was putting together a parts list for a guy's 200X motor that he wants me to rebuild. Thank god this weather finally warmed-up enough to get out in the barn and start doing some work! Maybe I'll pull the cylinder off this coming Sunday!
-
Dropped off my Laeger frame, swingarm and hinson quick change covers for powder. Also dropped off my subframe and two sets of front engine mounts at the chromer. Part one of two builds will be starting soon. :)

Finished cleaning my wife's 86 TRX frame last saturday & found 2 crack's, one on the inside of the left front engine mount & one on the lower left engine mount. Tonight I made the plates to repair the cracked mounts, just got to weld them in & do a little paint touch up & it's ready for reassembly.

Did a liitle spring cleaning in the shop. Organized some parts and hung up a bunch of race banners.
-
Ok all polished brake components are on and bled, polished up all stator covers. Pink lsr is getting a few more polished parts, installing the steering stabilizer on the lsr as well. The new ball joints from white chassis have arrived and been installed on the walsh, along with pulling the axle out and carrier to double check if I greased all of it. Jon's brake rebuild kits came in along with his new s.s. brake lines, calipers and rear master getting rebuilt now.
And I have 2 weeks to have both R's cleaned up and looking great for the motor sports who sponsors me still for there open house this spring. They want both R's there. Just about ready to go racing the walsh on the mx track.
-
Man that thing is sure lookin' good Zak!
Thanks Jeremy!

went out to the shop, drug it out of the corner, blew some dust off it, wiped the crust from its eyes and tossed it a breath mint. Did some acessin' to find I gave my tail light and mounts and an exhaust mount to a guy that bought a pile of atc parts. Turns out the white tail light housings are trx and the black housing units are atc....yep, got a mountless black tail light...

Got my new rear wheels to finally match the fronts.

Well I got everything apart today and now I'm just waiting on all the parts. The side covers aren't that bad but I'm going to paint them with some fresh black paint before I put it all back together.

OK, not today, but over the past week end I did my top-end rebuild. Or I should say I did it, then took it back apart again because I got the wrong piston from Wiseco. Darnedest thing, the box has the same exact label as the box of the piston I took out of the engine. Even has the same part number stamped in the dome of the piston. But you set the 2 next to each other and they look nothing alike. I'm guessing this piston got mis-marked at Wiseco. The intake side of the piston looks nothing like the one I took out and the wrist pin hole is almost a 1/4" closer to the ring lands than the one I took out. That is the part I did not catch until I put the jug on and rolled the engine over and it stuck! Piston skirt made contact with the crank throws.
Called them yesterday, return label e-mailed to me and replacement one shipped yesterday as well. So guess what I'll be doing this week-end?
-

Played around this weekend a little bit with the atc stuff I've been collecting, threw the front end on and sanding on the tank a little, the seat leaves for cosmic after the Snakehunt trip.
The rear shock is at SRS and talked to John Kite a few times at his shop...
Wish I could find my dang 8-1.25 tap!
-
Repaired all my motor mounts on my 89, damn things wont be breaking now! Did some finishing touches on the wifes R, now its just connect radiator lines, instal pipes, add fluids, and ring ding ding! Well that and wait on a couple small peices to come in the mail! Tony is hookin me up good!
-
Maybe you got the wrong one but i know sometimes they change designs and you get a different piston. Ive gotten some with holes for oil and fuel to pass through on the exaust bridge and some not. I remember when the R pistons werent enforced on the intake side with those ridges and then receiving the newer style piston. Man those old style pistons would crack on the skirt all the time

Vic- No it was the wrong piston. Got the replacement one, same box, same part number but this time looks just like the one I am replacing. At first I thought the same as you "oh, they changed the design to something better". Nope, not going to work with that wrist pin location change! Oh yeah, correct new piston went in 2 Sundays ago, engine's got 5 heat cycles on it now! Almost ready for riding season!

Machined out my water jacket over the pv port on my ESR 330.
-
Put my clutch lever on moved back to a 13 front sprocket went for a ride man was it beautiful to be back on her
-
Pulled the rear axle out and bearing carrier with the "crunchy" bearings in it last night. Found my Sidewinder Titanium sprokets are worn very badly. Says lifetime warranty on wear-out, only had these 4 years, calling Kruuse Racing today.
-
Picking up the final peices today, coolant, cotter pins, the ORV sticker for dunes, i made smoke yesterday with the wifes bike, man i missed that sound!
-
Since it looks like I'll never be able to get my wife's bike back together I changed direction & started cleaning up the spare engine I picked up over the winter. I'm getting it ready to swap the top end off my bike over to the spare engine so I can at least have something to ride this summer. I just hope the bottom end holds up.
-
I got this engine last winter to have a spare set of cases but decided to clean it up & use it in my bike instead. The cases are in good shape but the engine looked pretty rough. It had a thick sludge coating of exhaust residue, oil, dirt, sand & red, silver & blue paint overspray. I cleaned it all up & pulled the cylinder & side covers. I found that the piston had been seized & moisture had gotten into the stator side. I got all the corrosion cleaned out of the stator side & pulled the clutch cover & everything under there looked really good, the clutch basket shows surprisingly very little wear so now I just need to swap top end's & side covers & put the mill back in my bike & I'm ready to hit the sand for the first time in 2 years.
(http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/scrappyfab/DSCN0831_zpse533c108.jpg) (http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/scrappyfab/media/DSCN0831_zpse533c108.jpg.html)
This is the engine from my bike. I did some extensive port work to it in 2012 & only got 2 rides out of it before it started popping out of third everytime I got it up on the pipe. The bottom end hasn't been touched for a long time & it's finally time to pull it apart. The last time it was apart was in 1990 when I had to replace the crank from a lower rod bearing failure. The bottom end held up for 22 years of hard dune thrashing & hill racing! That is a testament to the quality that Honda put's into these bikes.

Ordered a new clutch cover gasket and kicker shaft seal, gonna set my ring gap tonight and put the top-end back together. As soon as my gaskets show up I can put the clutch cover/water pump together.
-
Changed the oil in my rear shock and re-pressurized with nitrogen. Feels much smoother now!

tried to get a shroud on last night...really hate to bust out the dremel :(

Took the bike to HMF, which is about 2 miles from my work. Got the stinger on my LED 350G pipe bent so it wouldn't hit my no-link rear shock (should have told Arlan what frame I had). It's so nice to have them close, and especially to have a good riding friend who works there.
Also had my buddy make me a rotor guard, this thing looks beefy and should take some serious abuse.

You have the frame I need! I know it will never be for sale but put me on the list anyways. Bob
-
Ordered more OEM parts - bolts, rubbers, internals. Very painful every time.
-
finished clamping my airbox lines on and lined up the smartcarb. 310 is ready for its next ride as soon as Jason Hall gets the inverts to me and i install them.

Sold one out of the fleet.....:road trip:
Why would you do such a thing!?
-
^^^^^It was hard but I was not attached to that one. Neighbor kid wanted it so I sold it to him. Already raced it and got 5th overall out of 16 quads....all 450's. He is hooked hard and only 18 yrs old.
-
Glad to hear it is good hands! I know how much you love the R's
Thanks Jon! Only problem is I think I am married to it now. Lol I did tell him if he ever sells it to give me first chance.
-
started it for the first time since march. started first kick.

-
Just "sold" one to one of my employees. It left the yard a few minutes ago.
-
received a set of 450r foot pegs i bought from ebay to replace the right peg that i trashed when i wrecked the ATC500R bike. cant beat 20$ shipped for a new set of wider foot pegs
-
just got done putting my rebuilt motor in and can't wait for tomorrow to fire it up . neighbors might not like a midnight run.
-
should run good got 200 psi. on the compression test
-
Put on my new gripper seat cover Friday night and went camping Saturday. After 4 days of hard riding everything held good and ran like a champ. No issues other than my headlight going out while our riding by myself at 2:30 in the morning, it was a sketchy ride back to camp to say the least lol. Cleaned up the motor I am going to put in my 88 this weekend. Turned out pretty nice. Recieved my new chain, clutch lever, etc. to help me finish this maybe very soon. Got home after 2nd shift and find my old quad sitting next to my shed. Neighbor kid wrecked it already.....no compression.:wtf?: I guess I am marrried to it now.:cower:
-
Neighbor kid wrecked it already.....no compression.:wtf?:
I thought you meant wrecked as in broken plastic and frame parts. No compression is an easy fix! Some of us do it every week.
-

I know it's easy. I just got a million other things going on right now. Told him to never coast, hold it wide open for too long and always blip the throttle when letting off. I have run these quads for almost twenty years and never burned one down....yet.:p He did wreck his shoulder already motocrossing it after only ten days of owning it.
-
I top off the fuel tank with Sunoco 112! A toad strangler, came down! Ride, maybe tomorrow! :quad:

Picked up an 89 close to me with no top end on it. Put a spare top end on it and threw away the dyna fs ignition box and she fired right up!! Not sure what I am going to do with this one yet but at least it will look original....
-
^^^^^Nice! What is the plastic bag on the crossbar pad for? Washing?
-
that was on there when I bought it. It is a brand new moose crossbar pad and the previous owner never took the wrapper off it!! I just took the handlebars off and removed the crossbar and painted them black.
-
I still want to change out the front bumper to a more original looking one. I think a 400ex bumper will look close enough. And I need some take off 400ex or 450r tires and wheels.
-
Pro pegs gone! Trying to give this old frame a new beginning; eventually.

Pulled out my 310 and put in my backup RB racing ported 250 to tune it in. Getting closer and it is running pretty darn good right now. It absolutely HATED my trx5b pipe. Found that out by putting on an old CT midrange pipe. It runs so much better now and has that 2 stroke hit to it with plenty of useable power for aggressive trail riding. I am liking it....(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/89_2377_2017-04-18_8025.jpg)

Got one of my ATC's all serviced and ready for our family's first big camping/riding trip of the season coming up this week. We will be spending a whole week on Tug Hill.. Can't wait!!
Hoping my 41.2 PWK comes in before we leave so I can bring my big bore ATC as well....
BRAAAP!!
-
Just wraped up my new 363, waiting for the rtv to harden on the exhausrt so i can fire it up!!!
-
Stayed up till 3 this morning cleaning the clutch side, rebuilding the water pump, triple checking everything & setting the engine in the frame. Got to install the intake & exhaust, compression test, bleed front brakes, put in all fluids & it'll be ready to ride for the first time in two years......... I can smell the dunes.
-
Just got done ripping my 86 down to redo. I originally was just going to fix a crack in the frame and replace the stem bearing but after checking stuf over , the rear shock was leaking, bottom out bumper junk, and carrier bearings are shot. Took the motor out to fix the crack and found the bolts were loose and that caused two more cracks and wobbled out holes. I also took the topend off to do a new piston. Then the damn pivot bolt was stuck! Pb blaster saved me there.
-
I went out and looked at mine and wished I hadn't spent the first nickel on it
-
Ride Red, how are the trails up there? Are they groomed and smooth or will they tear up bikes? I've been up there snowmobiling and it was awesome.
-

got a new box of goodies in, even found a billet throttle cap in there i didnt order, which would be awesome if i had a thumb throttle lol
-

Got the pro-x 310 on today.
the good, Its on and passed leak down.
The bads, I'm thinking 1 head stud is stripped. It torqued down to 19 and seemed to only spin after that, time restraints mean its probably staying how it is for the moment depending on whats going on after the break in, keeping an eye on it and parking it if something goes wrong during the trip.
The paint didnt take very well and has chipped in a few spots. Its also staying as is, ill probably powder coat it when i have it all down next time.
-
Not today but yesterday I cleaned up a stock cylinder that will be getting bored on monday along with getting my shocks recharged. I also started putting my front end back together, went with stock red frame and gold arms, then i took the 4stroke "R" for a good ride but ripped off my rear skidplate!
-
Nothing all weekend and it makes me sad.....:sour:
-
I ended up fixing that stud, Didnt like the idea of it being done half way so I was going to put some other stuff on hold (ended up being simple and dumb)
-
Well went to do a quick clean in and polish on the ol bike before the dune trip this weekend. Found my antifade to be loose, figured "ah easy fix, no big deal at all." Go to tighten it and it won't squeeze everything together. After some investigation, I thought I could see bearing on the sprocket side. So I pulled the axle out quick and sure enough, carrier bearing everywhere lol. Luckily had a few spares :) back on, ready to Ricky ride hard!
I also adjusted my squish and cleaned up the top end a little, closed up my squish from .056 to .039 :)
-
Well I finished up the minitooth today and got it fired up. Sounded real nice and is so nice to be able to push a button and have the bike start. I was going to post the fire up video and some pictures, but photobucket sucks!!
-
Let's see been real busy getting ready for the S.L. trip this week. Cleaned up the lsr, pulled air boxes and cleaned them and new filters, got spares ready just in case. Changed to the dune tires after a good old polishin. Got the flags out made orv and trail sticker holders for the 2 R's, waxed the plastics. Cleaned the trailer and got the bed frame done and a mattress in the front of the trailer. Cleaned the grill and packed the trailer and checked all lights only need one rear tail light for the trailer. Time to wash and wax the trailer and add some sponsor stickers b4 the trip. Only a few things left to do and leave on Friday morning.
Got the truck fixed and have to finish pay get the mechanic for the quick fix. Get race gas and food on Friday morning and roll out asap.
-
Changed the shift shaft on my brothers procross 350 rotax powervalve.
-
It wasn't today I did work but a couple of days ago I decided to tinker with the hybrid. Yfz motor sits 3/8" lower than frame so I have to box out the frame for protection. Mocked up an engine cradle so I can fab some motor mounts. Also cleaned up all of the unused mounts. Then I trimmed up the stock cdi mount and fabbed it to accept the yfz cdi and rectifier thing. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/17/yve7eba7.jpg)
Not complete but I extended the mount to fit the rectifier and thinned the top plate to allow the cdi to attach. FYI.... I'm calling the black box thing the cdi. Maybe it's a distribution box.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
The cdi slides on the tab. The rectifier mounts to the base once I weld some studs on it. It does clear the steering stem.

Put it on the trailer ready to go to pinelake
-
Installed a pwr radiator yesterday. Hopefully thatll keep the heat down
-
Just finished up mounting the trx5b cm and led intake I got from Mando.
-
Heard my R run today for the first time in 2 years. Third gear went out in my engine, I picked up a spare engine last winter off craigslist & put my top end on it. Went from a long rod to a short rod.
-
Replaced the handlebars, new hand guards, new rear tires, and new chain and sprockets.
-
New chain and sprockets installed. Mounting new LRD pipe this week.

OK Saturday, I pulled the axle and anti fade nut off of the Walsh. So burns363r kyle could use it to race on sunday.
Sunday I pulled the stem out of the lsr at my parents house so I can ship it. Monday after work I put the rear of the Walsh back together and put the mx tires on her so I can race on friday. Piston is in as well so top end will be finished up tomorrow after work.
-
Just finished installing the CT pipe and silencer. I hope to install the radiator shrouds and front plastics today.

08IRS I've always liked the way CT does their turn down. Plus it's cool when your bike is idling...pankpankpankpapankpankpapank and the dirt is making little dust swirleys in the dirt behind you. I hope it performs the way you like it.

Can't wait to ride it. I started it tonight and had a bad exhaust leak so I have to pull it back off and seal it. Such a bummer.

Thanks to Tony for the blasting on the cover and the-steve-man for the cover!

I love those UPP case savers....wish I would've found them earlier.... they would've saved me a case!
I've done quite a bit lately. New (to me) polished 310 sleeved stock cylinder, 38mm Air Stryker, CR250 Rad Valve, new Paul Turner Eliminator pipe, new polished stator cover, new D.I.D chain, some 23" tires for trail riding, and a new polished kicker and shifter. It runs pretty strong now.

After blowing my motor and finding a crack at the lower motor mount I decided to order one of Tony's complete gusset kits.
Today I started cutting off all of the unneeded mounts and tabs and came up with a plan to mount my rear shock reservoir behind the radiator, mount the cdi and coil under the tank behind the radiator, minimize the petcock mount since I'm not using a head stay and reroute my radiator overflow hose to just above my pipe so when it overflows it'll steam.
Pics aren't too descriptive but you'll see the raw metal spots as I made progress. I'll have to repowder after it's all complete.
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/02/ad785fb1d6c9c72185f263598517a45c.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/02/9384ba8794dc67a43ac11d9c601590f6.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/02/cd20a89f0469c32d8e243246f1b09656.jpg)
After the vin picture was taken i reduced the size of the plate so it can fit in the spot shown. The whole stock reservoir mount will be removed as will the stock tool box mount.

Dan's poly seat grommets also has me thinking of putting my router to use. I'll be making poly grommets for that along with chain sliders and rollers. I'll also be welding on pro peg nerf bar mounts to use with whatever nerf bars I purchase shortly. The mounts will be welded to minimize hardware needed.

Put most of them away so I can focus on finishing my 87 build this winter.

How do you keep up with all those Rs? I can't keep up with just one.

It isn't easy sometimes. I have a on-going list on what needs to be fixed on each one. One good thing is though when one breaks you can still ride!

As much as I debated on welding tonight, I still did some. Not happy with my welding due to me not getting the frame completely clean in the first areas. It'll def hold though.
Here's my vin tab welded up (doesn't need to be strong) and a pic of my coil/cdi/ground/rad overflow hose. The cdi will be zip tied in place using the two brackets it rests on. The tab next to it is for the ground. This will keep all of my wiring tidy.

Damn. That's even better if you decide to run a stabilizer. My CCP pulled so stickers off but it's no big deal. Keep the pics coming.

I got my motor upgrade in the mail today from Eddie Sanders. I can't wait to get to work on it. Eddie threw in a pile of extras including a jet wrench, coolant temp gauge, throttle cover, and a case saver!

Did a little work the other night, went to throw on the 350g on the Duncan motor and noticed a blown base gasket. So it's time for the Bhp 363 while the 340pv gets a rebuild.
Just for comparison, the 2 pipes are a 350g and a 2003race.

Your going to love that exhaust. :love-struck: What a world of a difference it made for me. :excitement:

What a strange shop. a Christmas chain saw tree. trees growing out of the shop floor...never a dull day
-
Lol, trees are cut at both ends to hold up the loft and were used to hold the saws so they didn't get buried in the shop. The saws also prevent sh*t from being stacked around the "posts"
There's a hotdog roller in front of the r too if we're pointing out "strange" things
-
Hotdog roller just sounds like a good idea

Don't forget about the wood stove rollin on 15's.
-
I'm saddened to see that Stihl saws out number the poor lone Husqvarna saw.
-
Awesome shop! And pretty nice R's you guys have. Gotta do me a 70 someday...
-
Hotdog roller is awesome in the shop, there's a 7-11 chilli n cheese machine on another bench out here.
The 15's just happened to be stacked outside the garage when I made the stove so figured that was a better use than yard art hahah
There's another husky just ran outta room on that post. Most of the stihls are from my old man when he logged in the 80s. Gonna Swap the post behind the 70 for a bigger one to put more saws in here soon.
70s are getting harder to find locally worth picking up. I think i paid $150 for mine but recently bought a tank seatcover and tires then powder coated most of mine.
The flat track trike classes locally are huge so them guys are snatching them up quick.

Do I spy a few old 056's in the background there?
-
Definitely a 56 on the left side. The old one on the right I believe is a 26 little farm boss. A couple old homelites too on the back side.
My cousin keeps buying all the old saws he comes across to put in the post.
Stihls and huskys were bought by me or the old man. But the others were basically given to me to throw in there. I told him the only thing is they all gotta run hahah a ton of saws that are never used but a conversation piece
-
I kinda half ass collect old saws also. I have a homlite model 17 that runs the rest don't. The 17 has a 44" bar and is heavy as hell!

Makes my back and hands hurt just thinking about it, I've only have one old saw left an old Pioneer NU-17 they make appreciate my new style huskies that I have.
