Ok guys might as well start this thing off so you can see how it all starts. I have to ship, buy and rebuild stuff and will be making up my mind as i go really. This will end up being a duner but here are some pics of my original plan for a drag bike.

These mounts dont look right and dont think they would handle a puma so im sending this chassis to Stellar to get worked on. (http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z157/armandomoreno/DSC01512.jpg)
-
It will end up having elka long travel dune editions with a +6 stellar ladder swingarm. Havent really decided on the engine yet lol
-
Yeah, those mounts look weak, and it's missing an upper rear mount lol bummer to mess with that pretty powder
-

yea its candy purple and was actually thinking of leaving it purple and painting the fenders green for an Incredible Hulk theme.
-
id like to see a hulk quad would be sweet. The swing arm looks awesome. Id like to get one built 88 length. I like the tube look and chrome
-
Looks good and agree the front motor mounts look very week at the frame connection
-
You have a real nice start!! Yes that is the older front motor mount which are weaker then than newer ones.
-
Thanks guys, the more i look at these pics the more i want to keep it this way. Too bad its raining outside or else i would bolt everything i have just to see what it would look like. Stellar is way busy so he said theres no rush in shipping it since it would just sit at his shop and start working on it till march.
-
dang thats a long wait I hope I dont have to wait that long for a swinger here soon
-
Just a quik mock up. What do you guys think?
(http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z157/armandomoreno/DSC01524.jpg)(http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z157/armandomoreno/DSC01523.jpg)(http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z157/armandomoreno/DSC01520.jpg)
-
Looks great man. What motor are you running?
-
Looks like a Packard speacial !;)
-
So after months of having a puma locked up in my closet ive been hearing braping noises coming from it at night. Yes guys im sure theyre coming from the closet and not from under the bed sheets lol. Today i decided to build it hand tight just to see what it would look like. Ive had a couple members say that it would be pretty cool to see a hulk build and thanks to a member on here Emullen for offering his green fenders this will now be The Hulk build. This is a temporary chassis untill i find a LSR xulw chassis.
This is a Packard 439 puma with over ride tranny and a 48mm lectron. The slingshot that i had saved up for this puma is now being used for my sphynx so i have not decided on clutch set up for this. Ignition will be a cr250 of course but other than that the engine set up is complete.
The chassis needs mounts reinforced and im thinking of green powder to match the fenders. The swingarm is a Stellar +10 arched and will be paired with a JJ&A hillshooter axle (i have a JJ&A play axle on the above pics). The chrome a-arms in the first pics are super light drag arms with aluminum bushings and titanium bolts. I dont know who made them. The purple ones are DMR arms with heims.
Up front i have JJ&A spindle mounts with smoothies and in the rear those are Skat Trak 12 paddle rippers with a 81 roll out. I was just told i need more paddle and less roll out so i will be buying a different pair soon.
The fenders will be drag cut and polished and will have hulk graphics. Steering stem and wheelie bar will be done by Stellar.
Have not decided on what color/type of seat im going with and im thinking im going with a chrome Fullbore tank cover.
-
sweet setup. atleast with packard he wont say it has a overide then install a stock trans and hope you dont notice :excitement:
im thinking of going with stellar setup also. talked with him few months ago but he didnt have anything completed. probly call him back pretty soon and see what hes got

Ive been trying to get a hold of Stellar for about a week and no luck. Called the shop everyday and left two messages on the answering machine but no call back. Im not liking that. Ive also tried to contact JDI to get a price on one of those sweet drag chassis and no luck either.
-
he might be out of town. when i called it seemed like i had to leave a message and he called back. im sure hes pretty busy. his stuff looks pretty nice from what ive seen but if i cant get ahold of him ill probly just go with lonestar
-
Finally some updates....Had no luck with stellar so i just stopped calling. I got a price from packard for one of his style LSR hillshooters and then i got a chance to get my hands on one of these sweet JDI hillshooter chassis so i jumped on it.
It looks like a basketball players coffin lol

The engine gave me hell and its still not in completely. I got the bolt in the lower back in but having trouble with the bottom.

Had to borrow this carrier from my spare collection and i need a caliper mount. Axle is a hillshooter JJ&A. Dont remember them being that shiny, my play axle is due for a polish.

I think i just need someone to help me on the other side instead of me walking around it all night. Maybe it takes two people yelling at it like drill sergeants lol

-
Looks sharp, that puma gonna rip in there!
-
Got the engine to fit this weekend. Had to do a little grinding to the lower mount gusset because it was hitting the engine and it wouldnt let the engine sit right. Not sure how james did it.

Remember those rubber mounts I showed you?

yea im using one of those. I bought a spare but my fabricator didnt want to use it. Ill reshape the mount and put it on.
-
Going with a front brake master cylinder because i dont trust my leg to hit the brake pedal going 1000mph. Got a brake line made today.
-
This is one sick machine. I would love to ride a machine with gobbs and gobbs of power when its dialed in perfect. What a blast. Awesome machine man.
-
Went back to the hose shop and found the missing link. The hose is a 3/4 that turns 90* into a 5/8 and a reducer. This will be used as the bottom radiator hose.
-
Nice progress Mando!

Nice progress Mando!
hell yea oj..ima wrench all night and get it running tonight. Just have to add fluids, tighten everything up and bleed brakes. Tomorrow is my bday so this is ganna be my bday present "a running R" lol....my buddies want to celebrate on saturday at the dunes.

Hey Mandom u can also try a late 80's and on ford small block water pump to thermostat hose they are exactly the same thing with out the adapter u have only shorter. Now that I'm thinking about it there are many Ford vehicles(Aerostar, ranger, econoline) that use that 3/4 -90 degree to 5/8 straight hose if u wanted to ditch adapter. FYI. I would go to parts hose and just look around and always find one, common hose. u seem to have this build well under control.

thanks wrench, im ganna keep looking around but hopefully i can get some stainless braided hoses made.
As of right now its ready to ride but i decided to wait till tomorrow morning to crank it up. I think the neighbor is in trouble because he got home late and had to knock to get in his house lol. His wife must have locked the door on him. Ill post some pics and hopefully a video of the first start up tomorrow.

I was actually gonna ask mando where he got the adapter because I need one but will be trying this today.

The adapter can be found in most plumbing supply stores.

This is what i got rupp, bad thing is that its plastic. couple parts on this build will be replaced when i take it apart next winter for new color powder. I just want to get it going for this season.
-

Lol thanks jeremy i should get lots of looks with this big pipe at the dunes. I think it leans to the right too much, hopefully i can get the ladies opinions lol
-
Just ordered several different sizes and bends off ebay.
-
Jegs and summit sell universal mandrel "U" bends in various materials and diameters, that are light weight and strong if u want something more durable for cheap. just have to cut to desired length/angle. U can also swing by a exhaust shop and look in there scrap pile they take a lot of nice stainless exhaust off new vehicles. FYI most vehicle OEM exhaust is high quality stainless due to emission standards/ high temp. Look for truck tuff that will have the larger diameter tubing. Most exhaust shops will be able to flare the tubing, for a good fit on the filter. I've always tried to use the resources around me or available to me, so i was creative back in the day. Cause extra coin wasn't. LOL!

Got to hear it yesterday but kept running away even after pulling the kill switch and spark wire. I ended up hitting the throttle do kill it.

Damn that is sexy!
-
Lean hang? You running alky? Careful of those lines deteriorating. Bike looks great.
-
Yea rupp running alky...i purged it and started running away till i sprayed the carb with carb cleaner and it idled fine after.
-
Puma keeps running away on alky but when I purge it with gas it idles and stays running.
Its not as hard to start as I thought it would be.

Fatten your needle up a couple turns then start backing (leaning) it out a half turn at a time till you get closer to it's happy spot then you can go in 1/4 turn increments to fine tune it..

Needle is screwed in all the way. This is how it is right now.
-
You need 50.06mm it shouldn't idle on gas..

hmm ill call Packard monday
-
Then we need a video of you starting that beast
-
kept running away even after pulling the kill switch and spark wire.
do you have the idle screw turned most all the way in ? if so that's likely the reason. I had same problem. you don't want the idle screw all the way in. you can try someone elses needle stick out recommendations but its going to boil down to finding what works regardless what everyone else has theirs set at. if it wont idle at all through the full needle adjustment range then I would guess your needing a different needle, providing you have no underlying mechanical problems. lectrons aren't as easy as everyone thinks they are. especially when you start from square one and aren't sure what needle to use or how far to have it stick out. be prepared to turn the needle up and down thousand times before you get it figured out haha. went through same shit here
-
Called packard today and told him my needle was 53.2; said it was too long, grab some pliers and keep turning with the needle extended. He said its suppose to be 51mm but to try 52mm first. Ok
-
Then he asked me if i had the right cable for the carb i was using. I said yes and he said to check if it wasnt too tight. So i did...and then i remembered the devil told me to keep this part on the throttle.:character0029:
-
Stop teasing.. post a video of this thing purring
