Title: Front wheel offset
Post by: Grande huevos on January 24, 2015, 02:27:13 PM
I have plus 2 arms on my quad because I mainly ride tight trails and I'm getting ready to buy some new wheels and dune tires and would like to widen her out a bit. These will only be used as dune wheels so what offset should I go with?? Any recommendations would be great

For dunes 3 plus 2 is as wide as you wana go, any more and you will get bad bump steer.

I prefer 4 plus 1 for MX and woods riding.

So what exactly do those numbers mean? The higher the second number the deeper the dish for wider stance?  I see the tears are 3+5

I ride dunes 24/7 and use 4+2 with +2 a-arms. This feels so right and I don't have any problems with bump steer. Where does anyone get bump steer on flat sand?

The height of the tire you are going to use has an effect on what offset is needed. If you are going to run a taller than stock a 3+2 would be acceptable ,if you are running a short mx tire a 4+1 would be needed. If you are running the oem tire, the oem wheel is best. Honda did not make a mistake with the oem setup. From the factory your tires turn slightly off the centerline of the ball joints, moving it to exactly center isn't necessarily a good thing and moving it further away from center is even worse

If you can, picture in you mind a shorter or taller tire and see were it moves the centerline of wheel closer or further away from balljoint centerline
