Ill be dumping a rather ridiculous amount of money in this thing but I have gotten the fever to get this thing back in action. Its got some "who knows" a-arms...could be lone star...could be anything. I still have the ugly stock swinger and will be upgrading that. I did however put a good RPM axle, sprocket hub, and anti fade on it so I will be keeping those. Need to get ahold of Pumashine for some gussets and what not. Anyway, here is what she looks like now...along with some other pics you guys may enjoy.

I'd like to have either one. RC51's are awesome but not comfortable enough for long rides. What colors are you going with on the R?

The RC is definitely not a comfortable bike...probably why I have only rode it 2,400 miles LOL. I think I will go with black frame, red swinger, red a-arms, and a slew of some red engine parts. I want this thing to stand out.

I love the RC51. BUT IMHO The 954RR Is the best liter bike. It's the lightest 1000 ever made and is super comfortable.

I don't suppose anyone still makes the rubber isolators that the gas tank rests on do they?(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/567_4631_2017-04-18_5229.jpg)

I'm not sure where to buy them Don but even if they look terrible once your tank is bolted back on they aren't going anywhere (mine are pretty rotten and doing fine)

Part is obsolete. Ebay or this site in the for sale section. Most of use just clean them up and reuse them.

Very sharp! They had that bike at the dealer when I bought my 86 250r. If I remember right, they had very good deals on new VF1000. I ended up going home with the new 1986 Ninja 1000R bike. The honda looks super nice, but the specs didn't match up. The mind set back then was the V motor is out for performance

Well, I got her down to the bare frame this weekend! I could not believe the swing-arm pivot bolt came right out with just a couple taps with a hammer and chisel LOL! The a-arm bolt were another story. I had to use my cut off tool to get the bolts off. They had rusted to the collars inside. Now I just need to get her to the sand blaster, get ahold of pumashine for his best gusset kit he makes for the 86 and then weld that in, then off to the powder coater!(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/567_4719_2017-04-18_4577.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/567_4720_2017-04-18_7458.jpg)

By the way guys, do any of you prep the frame before powder coating? Like cover any bolt holes or anything so the bolt threads don't get covered up with powder?

usually the powder coater does all that work... I just drop mine off sandblasted and they do the rest.

Definatley talk to the PC guy before you get it done. I have seen many with the threads come back PC'd. Don't know if its a problem as I chase all threads after painting before putting any bolts in. I would have them block off the holes for you. I know the frame is filled with sand after sand blasting even when you have dummy bolts in each thread. It would be ideal to get it back with the threads free from coating. I can't get the bolts to tighten well with paint on the threads. I use a reversible drill with a 6 then 8 then 10mm tap and lots of wd-40. Makes assembling the bike much more desirable.

Dont forget to send all the other same color parts to the PC at the same time. Will save you some $$$ and the colors will be the same.

i prefer to chase all the threads rather than plugging all the holes. i have plugged the holes in the first couple of frames i sprayed. after riding it the first few times rust started oozing out of the holes that i did not use. now any of the frames i spray i do not plug the holes and only chase the holes that im going to use. no more rust oozing after time and the unused threaded holes dont stand out as much because the powder gives a nice rolled edge into the hole.

Happy 4th weekend everybody!!!! Sorry for the delay in updating my post but here are a few current pics. Got Tony's gusset kit welded in, got the frame powder coated. Had to send back the Lone Star DC-4s, and the Lone Star swinger back due to damage from shipping. Have not got them back yet. Here is how she sets right now.

Got the a-arms back and they are a lot better than they were. Still a couple of blemishes but no major dings. Here are a couple of pics of how she is coming together.
