Are my rear hubs supposed to have some play on the axle splines? My hubs are a bit loose on my durablue axle, even with the axle nuts torqued (the nut threads down, but not enough to compress the spacer). This play seems like it would wear the splines....should I just throw a couple 20mm washers under the nuts, to tighten it up?

Once the nut is tightened there should be no play at all so shim it or do whatever you need to eliminate the slop.

Thanks, thats what I thought, I just wanted to make sure before I smashed the spacer or something. I am wondering if I am missing a spacer or something, that caused this. It would have had to have been a pretty small spacer though, I guess, since the nut can't back off a whole lot, or the cotter pin won't work. I will pick up a couple washers to shim it, and take care of it.

Usually the axle comes with adequate spacers. You might be missing one. I have had to use washers/spacers up to 1/8" thick to get everything to tighten up. You are doing it right if there is no play. But use the cotter key anyways. They seem to want to come loose after the paint wears off.
