Title: Ytman's 500
Post by: ytman on July 20, 2013, 07:47:47 AM
(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_60_2017-04-18_9779.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_61_2017-04-18_1860.jpg)I've put pics of this quad up on another site but it can't hurt to show her again.
She's a Laeger frame with urathene motor mounts, a Roll no link swingarm, Roll +3 lt arms, IMS wide ratio transmission, and an E line 200 watt stator.

THat bike is sick 500!!  I love the desert bikes, especially the Laegers!!  I bet she rips!  Got any videos of it?

Is that a omf bumper with the built in skid? I just can't get over your quad man!
And an IMS tranny?? How rare is that??

Thanks all. I llllove this quad. The wide ratio gear kit makes it. That and the flywheel weight of the lighting set up keep the vibes down. Riding in the lower rpm range, taking advantage of the ridiculous amount of torque, is the key. 22inch rear tires also helps. When she's up on the pipe tho...look out.
The bumper is a Triple EEE. I made the skid Myself.
I've been out of town since January. All I do is dream of getting back home, tidying up some things on her, and getting some video....riding of course.

Love it would love to build something like that for Baja style riding. Even though prolly never get the chance to ride dessert.

Money25....I don't know that I would recommend building one...unless you could soft mount the motor. Laeger did a great job. I started with a stock R frame and I chased cracks all over the place. Some cracks had me scratching my head. "Why in the heck would it crack there"? Places like the whip mount, the grab bar, the sub frame. Definitely some sonic harmonic sumpm sumpm goin on. She's a great duner tho

this is cool.  it would be fun to put this in 4th and torque around the trails.

Love your 500! The chassis looks well put together. Your bike screams of an 'ol dirtwheels magazine article. Very cool!

Can't remember from other places/posts, Have you run one of these before?
You've got plenty of fuel already. Just thought of sharing these style tanks from Lacnce Schoonmaker, might look cool. I haven't run one yet, but guess it could make for poor ergonomics. Might be a knee knocker..?? Yours is awesome, & inspirational! Thanks for showing it.

Thanks k10. Beautiful tanks. I do have one and I used to run it in this bike. Do both of yours have the drop down on the bottom? The older ones like mine don't. They do stick out some for your knees to hit. The best view of how much is in the magazine scan on .net of the Doug Roll 500. They took a picture of the quad on its side giving us a top view.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_62_2017-04-18_7491.jpg)
It's fun filling the tank up. You just keep pouring...and pouring...and pouring.

Yep, that's a really cool 'ol article. Thanks for sharing ytman!
The one I posted on the left obviously has the drop sump, but the one on the right doesn't. I bought the "sumped" one because it looks like it's a smaller overall size (better ergonomics), but maybe holds the same amount of fuel with the lower sump, ??? Not really sure though, haven't played around or even filled for capacity #'s yet. Do you know how much one holds? 5/6 gals?? Mine are just attic jewelry for now.... I'd love to mach up a bike to get that Baja look. I've  got some big lights to try someday too....
Yours is the real deal!

K10 I actually had to make a pocket in the bottom of the tank for spark plug clearance on the 500.
There's some tricks to installing these tanks. If you're interested I'll share them with you.
I'd love to see pics of your lights.
I forget how much they hold.

Thanks. For sure will update my thread over at atvriders. My problem is I have NO time! Just have way to much stuff going on. Sucks to, as I have everything I need to finish, I just need to find the time and finish it! Hopefully by the end of summer, but not holding my breath...

ytman, I might get to playing with the bug eye head lights this weekend. Not sure, but will try to get a picture for ya. Nothing to special, just a twin Baja Design style. I know very little on them, so let the learning curve begin!

Awesome. Lots of super rare parts(trans and eline for instance), not to mention the frame and a bunch of other stuff. Those tanks are works of art k10 and are just as rare. Awesome desert sled. I love the torque and power of my 85 cr500 dirtbike. To bad honda never made a 500cc  2 stroke quad. I remember that article too btw and prob have it somewhere in the boxes and boxes of old mags I have.

ytman, here's the twin Cepek, Baja Design light set up I'll put on. Probably just go with this Clarke tank first before going through all the work of installing a Schoonmaker tank. After just getting this frame powder coated, I'd hate to start hacking at mounting tabs.

HEY k10!!! I just got home Sat. from a long time away from home(and my stuff). I checked out my Schoonmaker tank to see how many gallons it would hold. I poured in 5gals. and a little more than half of the 6th(of water). Enough for a couple of miles.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_2460_2017-04-18_7615.jpg) I know water is heavier than gas but.....DANG....that thing was.....HEAVY.

Well I finally got around to wiring up my lights on the bar I've been building(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_68_2017-04-18_6851.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_69_2017-04-18_5237.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_70_2017-04-18_4783.jpg) yesterday. Took her for a little spin up the road to adjust them. I'm happy. I'd heard that the E-Line lighting coil was not two 100 watt leads as they claim but something less. I thought I might have to put smaller wattage bulbs but I think these will work fine. One spot one flood.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm gonna try to get some video of the lights on. Night video doesn't usually show how bright lights are accurately tho. I haven't dialed in the front end yet so I can't hammer on it. just some rips on the flats. None of this.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_71_2017-04-18_7102.jpg)

What wattage bulbs are you running? I used to have a CR500 bike with an e-line and I was always told it only puts out about 180 watts. I had two halogen lights on it and I had a 55 watt bulb in the driving light and a 100 watt in the pencil beam. The e-line handled it no problem.

Already said it, but I have to say it again, awesome quad!

I just got em hooked up. The lights came with 100 watt bulbs. The stator didn't seem to have a problem with them. I tried to get some video last night. It looked like I was holding a flashlight. Not even worth sharing.

It is custom. We needed a way to carry a couple of extra goodies. I took a Roll bumper and sort of copied the bends and tube sizes then made the "legs" longer. Mounted a tall motorcycle fender bag on there(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_546_2017-04-18_7290.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_820_2017-04-18_8450.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_821_2017-04-18_9625.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_822_2017-04-18_6383.jpg) This is the one I ripped off(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_823_2017-04-18_9696.jpg)

Thanks for the pics, exactly what I needed, I appreciate it. So on the tubing sizes, is the main cross tube 1", while the four tubes to the frame are 3/4"? Or are they 1-1/4" and 1"?

Thanks,

Doug
Title: Ytman's 500
Post by: ytman on February 24, 2014, 08:11:53 PM
Thanks Troy.
D Berg The tubing sizes are 1" and 3/4". She sticks out pretty far tho. Past the front tires, so care needs to be taken when transporting your quad....as in... don't break out the back window of your truck. haha
Dez for some reason my teammates always wanted me to race the first section. I'm not sure if they were skeert or they just didn't want to deal with the dust. I started quite a few races out of Pahrump Nev. heading uphill, straight East, right into the rising sun, behind a buttload of other quads. I don't miss that. Can't see diddly. Talk about high anxiety. That picture must have been taken right after the start, The tires aren't even dirty.

Thanks, going by the fab shop tomorrow to drop the airbox off, am bringing a few pics with me. I think I am going to have it tucked in a little more, don't want it sticking out quite that far. Will for sure plan on posting some pics if I get it done.

So is that picture from a BITD race? (Was thinking it was with the Q50 number, plus the yellow sticker right behind the front number plate looks like a BITD tech sticker.) When I was racing BITD as a team, I would ALWAYS make my teamate start, he was just a better dust rider then me, at least that was my excuse! haha. Figure you have to know where the teams strengths and weaknesses are, right? Good thing he was faster then me in the dust, because I agree with you, racing straight into the rising sun is not fun at all! Raced ironman at the Parker 250 the last four years, same thing, straight into the sun in the morning. It is just something you can never get used to. I always hope for wind, or a big rain the week before!

Yes DBerg BITD somewhere between 97 and 99 maybe. We raced sportsman because there was three of us (pro class only allowed 2 riders) so, at the very least, we started behind all the pros. You know all about that being an IRONMAN. You must be a tough *******.

Alright....Back in town after being away for six and a half months.(yes...again) Before I left I had a talk with the off road guy at Ohlins and he helped me out with my front spring rate. As soon as I got back I ordered the springs. Took her out for a shake down run today. The guy nailed it. I haven't had her out since I put the LT front end on. This was also the first time out with the Scotts stabilizer on. I fabbed the mount myself so I was keeping my eyes on it.....The front end was awesome and the damper too. It's been so long since I've been riding I forgot what to bring. Sorry for babbling I'm just stoked I got to take the old war horse out again.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_2845_2017-04-18_997.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_2846_2017-04-18_7744.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_2847_2017-04-18_4039.jpg)

Title: Ytman's 500
Post by: ytman on December 24, 2016, 11:34:37 AM
Skeans1 the quad has pretty much been sitting since post #52. I welded some pins on the front of the airbox so I could use some brake line clamps to hold it on(a trick I stole from Troybilt)and fabbed up a little bracket for a couple of led tail lights. I think I'll take it down to just one light it's a little goofy.(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_8473_2017-04-18_4771.jpg)(http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/172_8474_2017-04-18_3731.jpg)
I may sell her. She just sits. Registration may be a problem tho. Even tho I bought the frame from Laeger brand new I don't have a receipt and there's no numbers on the frame. The motor came in a three wheeler that I bought and I have no papers on that either.
If I sell her I'll probably swap out the front end for the Laeger stuff. It's standard travel stuff and I may have to take a hit on value but I still have another big fat project quad that could really use that front end. We'll see. Thanks for the interest.

Oh Yeah......HAPPY HOLIDAYS......
