Title: rear shock spring
Post by: dirtyd on March 20, 2015, 10:00:36 PM
I have an 86 rear suspension (shock, linkage, swing-arm) on my R and want it to be stiffer. Right now I have the preload adjusted to the max and I can just about bottom it out by pushing down on the grab bar. I know they made some changes to the rear shock and over the years and was wondering if another year spring will be stiffer.

Sounds like your shock is dead. Time to have it rebuilt

I do my own shocks, its reabuilt, new seal head, oil and nitrogen. Its not springy. I thought about using a heaveir oil but that would just slow it down from bottoming. From what I read the 86 was softer than other years. Also found online that the 86  spring was 5.3 kg/mm and the 87  was 5.7 kg/mm. Also found this on Racetech's website http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/3/Honda/TRX250R/1986 used the calculator and tells you what spring you need. Acording to the calculator I need 6.65kg/mm. Might just have to contact one of the suspension guys on here.

If it were me and I got the correct spring for my weight I would go back to the lighter oil
