Title: Swing arm cracked my case
Post by: Grande huevos on March 29, 2015, 10:16:47 AM
Has anybody else had to deal with this issue??  I went to get my bike out the other day after sitting for awhile and I noticed that it had leaked some oil onto my front sprocket and the frame below.  I used some simple green degreaser and hit the car wash to get her cleaned up for further inspection, and it appears that I have a very small crack in my case and its leaking very slow 😞   I'm thinking that I have a worn out bushing or something on the swinger and its allowing it to touch the back of the case ever so slightly.  Can't think of any other possible way that would allow it to touch??? All my motor mounts are in tack and tight.

Do you know if the pivot bearing assembly is the same for all aftermarket swingarms or do I have to find one made for my specific brand? ( lone star,  leager ect...)

Should be the same. My houser uses the 88/89. I think their is a difference from 86/7.

I had this issue too. That's what happens when you ride hard! Unfortunately it also happens when you don't check things over every ride (something I still haven't learned).

Ps mine wasn't actually bad pivot bearings, but rather than my frame had ovalled out the hole and allowed for some movement forward. Fixed that and ran the cases. It was such minimal oil I wasn't worried about it.

I was going to say that also.  Not always bad bearing rather a egged out pivot hole in the frame.  I have seen a lot of motors with wear and or cracks back there from these things.  Sorry to hear about yours.

I pulled my rear end out tonight and my frame still looks good, however my pivot bearings are seized and it looks like the linkage bearings are toast too( actually couldn't find a trace of them) .  I've got a new pivot works pivot bearing kit and linkage bearing kit on the way.. It says it comes with everything needed to rebuild the rear linkage except for the bottom shock bearing. So is the dog bone included as part of the rear linkage?? I assume so? I  Figure I'll replace everything back there so I know it's solid..   Also it looks like she's been rubbing for some time But the crack is still pretty small and the oil is minimal so I am going to run it but I am going to put a light coat of jb weld over it so it doesn't leak all over the place and get everything nasty.    I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one out there that has had this issue

I think pivot works is talking about the part of the shock that mounts to the frame. There's no bearing on my aftermarket shock for the linkage.

I hope so.. I don't have one on mine either , I just wasn't sure if they meant the bottom part of the dog bone?  I guess I'll find out in a couple days. Hopefully it's all good so I can get it all back together
