Title: Who is interested in a new 89 type water pump shaft?
Post by: rablack21 on April 14, 2015, 07:49:23 AM: These shafts will be brand new utilizing the 89 year model style. They will be made of 304 stainless steel. I don't know a price yet, but will follow up soon. I want to get an idea of how many would be interested.

I'm gonna post a survey for just the impeller as well. Sorry, just haven't gotten the poll up yet? But since I will need an 89 impeller to use the new impeller, I figured I would go ahead and make me one. And since I was making them, I thought i would see if anyone else needed one as well, since Honda discontinued them and there aren't as many readily available.

Right now, it's looking like the stainless steel water pump shaft will run around $75-$100. I'm still working on seeing if I can get them cheaper than that. In the meantime, I want to send out a feeler to see what you guys think. Would you still be interested in these shafts if they around about $75-$100. Or maybe the better question would be: what are you willing to pay for them?

Plus I need another for my other engine I'm building. Let us know rablack21. Thanks for your support of the community. I think whT your estimating is reasonable. Unless your having thousands made I would expect a custom part to be a little more than what they were. By the way, the shaft was 45 new from honda, at least the 85-88 on was. Sorry right around 40 is what my package says.

As this will be a limited quantity order, I want to make a list of everyone that FOR SURE wants one. I AM NOT REQUESTING MONEY AT THIS TIME. Just building a list of those that want one. I am only offering this deal to .ORG people first. Then, I will open up to 250R facebook members if more orders are needed. Just to recap, these water pump shafts will be 89 style and made of 304 stainless steel, so they will not rust like the oem's tend to do. (Note* They will only fit 89 style impellers, but 89 style shafts and impellers will fit all year motors). The price will be $52 each plus shipping. There is only one other person that offers these shafts, and my price is roughly 30% less than theirs. Shipping will be $6 and package will be insured with tracking.

Again, I'm not taking money yet at this time. I want to confirm the first piece before ordering the the batch. I don't want to hold your money any longer than I have to. After confirming the part, I will then request the money from each of you and then place the order for the whole batch. Yes, I am requesting the money before ordering the batch. I can afford any extra money tied up in inventory right now. (If you have any questions, please pm me)

Checked the fitment of the first shaft. The fit was almost perfect....almost. I saw a couple of little things that I wanted to improve on. So the shaft is being tweaked and sent back to me. This should go pretty quickly.

Production of the wp shafts is officially underway. They should be ready next week. After going through QC, I will start boxing them up and begin shipping them out.

I do have the ability to make more of them if need be.

I do not buy from Carlos. I have a lot of unhappy customers that have done business with him.

I was agreeing with Carlos on his selection of a heat treatable steel and not using 304 stainless steel for his water pump shafts. Honda engineers knew what they were doing and would have made it cheaper if their testing proved that they could have eliminated the heat treat process and a grinding operation by using a material that used less expensive manufacturing operations. Stainless steel is just corrosion resistant and not strong and hard like 8620 or some of the other highly used heat treatable steels.
