Does anyone have a good 88-89 trans or 85-87 trans in good shape they would like to sell? Or can anyone recommend anyone that sells transmissions? I'm working on a 431 puma build and am having trouble finding a good set of gears.
-
Is it just a few gears or do you need a whole transmission?
-
I'll check with my builder this week, he said everything was pretty rough, have to see how much I really need

Dale the seller on ebay's Dirt factory parts out many 250r's. you can get a whole tranny for $200 then get if magnufluxed and Cryo'd for a little more.

Does LED still have the reinforced countershaft gears? You might want to look into some tougher ones for the Puma.
-
Thanks Tony,
I'm all cleared out until this winter. Back to work now.

I found a set of new yukons and plan on cryo treating them, think they will hold up vs led 1-3

I been running 2 puma's for 6 years now on stock tranny's. Blew 2nd on one of them. Lil epoxy and another $150 tranny is a good fix.

Maybe I'm worrying too much if stock is holding up good for you. Do you cryo treat your stock trannys?

Not until this 486 I am putting together now. Most important is to get first and second back cut so they do not slip out of gear when taking off.

I have to Ask what is the 486? Is it based off a puma cylinder? And what is the bore and stroke? I have two transmissions coming so should be good for gears now with yukons. Already have some shiny stuff from you just need a reason to bolt it on. Just lost interest in the polonda.
-
The 486 was supposed to be a baby Saber but CP Industries never made them up. I got one cylinder from a triple Caracal. Put a 89mm sleeve in the 95mm bore. The polonda is alot of work that was replaced when CP Industries cast the first puma. They had alot of power, just not easy to work with. The puma pulls wheelies past the polonda.
-
That 486 sounds interesting for sure. I agree a puma does pull hard on a polonda, couldn't beat em so figured join me. Hoping my puma beats the other one I ride with... Time will tell
