Title: Kick back!
Post by: countryboy9799 on May 01, 2015, 10:59:00 AM
Hey guys and gals,
I bought an 87 250r at the end of Jan. I did a complete tear down with most bearings replaced in the transmission, new hot rod crank, was factory bore and was bored out to the next step. I was having float issues in the carb so I put a new 38AS on and now I have really bad kick back when I try to start it. My shin is still black and blue from just about 2 weeks ago and at this point will not try kick starting it until this issue gets resolved.

The kick back is much worse with the new carb, I could barely tell it with the factory carb. It actually runs pretty good and just needs the carb dialed in. I have only taken it to about half throttle since the rebuild. I was wondering if I would maybe need higher octane gas? I wouldn't think so since the motor is for the most stock specs.

What kind of CDI. I had a OEM one that was bad it kicked back and a new Ricks electric one that kicked back too. I got another one from bdt that says its made to oem specs in the same factory and it was fine.

It ended up being the tether switch, to much resistance
