I am restoring my 86 and my axle is showing it age. So my question is what options do I have chrome it r pc ?

I have seen guys redo the link coating. Looks awesome when done.

Zinc coating ^^^^^^^^
-
Where can I get it done at?
-
I looked into having my axle zinc plated & found only one local shop. The guy told me they didn't do it anymore due to epa regulations here in Oregon. The other places I found I would have to ship my axle to, making it more costly because of shipping heavy parts. You might get lucky & have a shop local to you that can do it. Search the web for zinc plating in your area & that should get you started. Also the factory coating is zinc dichromate, the dichromate is what gives it that gold color, regular zinc is silver. Adding the dichromate over the zinc gives it better corrosion resistance.

How is the powder coating handling the abuse?

They usually mask off where the bearing fits. And the splines if I remember correctly.

When I had my stock axle chromed it was done from end to end but it fit fine. I think they polished it down & the layer of chrome brought it back in to spec. All the bolts & nuts I had chromed were under sized though from polishing before chrome.

Thank you I was wonder how I was going to do this.
