Whats the difference between 1/4 and 1/2" plates? How does it affect the motor.

No difference in power that i have ever been able to tell.  The only reason i run them is to space the reeds back, so they dont hit the cylinder walls, and tear up the reeds.  1/2" spacer will get you into trouble with your carb to, hitting the frame behind it. I would stay away from reed spacers if your not having trouble with reed petals breaking.
