Title: transmission help please
Post by: Victork on June 24, 2015, 09:41:25 PM
So i bought a tranny not complete but all the gears and collars in good shape, problem is that i noticed as i was swaping the gears out the ones i had (86) and these have different teeth count on certain gears, fifth and sixth maybe? Anyway, can different year gears be used on the main and counter shafts i already have?

The gears must mate with the other gear opposite from it. Yes, you can run into a big problem if the gear was the wrong tooth count.
Best thing to do is get your manual and count each gear teeth to make sure its going to work with the gear on the opposite shaft

I think my question was confusing so ill try again. I have a complete 86 tranny and all main and counter gears from a later year tranny but only gears. Is there anything else i need to put these gears with the 86 stuff?

what I would do is pull up a parts fiche for both years and see what part#s are the same and what ones are different
