Hey guys, come from crf250r/trx450 world and really just have the itch to build a two stroke. Never had one. I think I will really enjoy putting one together and will be keeping an eye on ebay and locally for one. May just get a frame and go from there. I'll be browsing around learning more and posting some questions after I have searched for answers on my build.

Hey Chris, welcome! My first R started off as a Frame only and it really gave me an education on what they're all about. However, I believe buying a complete R and taking it apart for rebuild would do the same and be cheaper & less time consuming, depending. I say "depending" because if you plan on going completely aftermarket, or even mostly, you just bought a bunch of parts you don't need.

What's your Plan? Oem resto, resto-mod, or full aftermarket?

Chris just keep your eyes I open I picked up my first 88 for 1800 out of Arizona. Good luck on whatever you do and there's lots of great info and guys here.

Thanks for the replies/feedback guys. Guess I should have mentioned what my plans are. I ride 80% woods with some decent size jumps and climbs mixed in. Not full mx or anything but A few spots I ride I was able to use most of the travel on my 05 trx450r. I liked and was used to throwing it around and jumping it so interchanging some 450r parts(plus I still have a bunch of leftovers) was in the game plan. I also still have my crf250r also an 05. It's great but I ride way too much rutted out terrain and soft stuff for me to enjoy riding it. When we ride it's usually for 6-10 hours and standing constantly gets tiring. Want a mix of both worlds I enjoy. Also as a side note lots of high speed areas so I want slightly wider for stability in turns. It's woods but lots of utvs on trails so trails are cut pretty wide. Those things really do some rut damage.

So I guess to sum up I'll probably use a bunch of 450r parts and fill in the blanks with both oem and aftermarket. Plus it can't be any more of a pita working on the motors than mx bikes/quads. I won't miss adjusting valves what seemed like every month and getting seats cut all the time.
