Title: Air intake tube...keep it or lose it?
Post by: fx4pitrone on July 23, 2013, 09:20:34 PM
Still a newb w/ the trx's... just curious if most of you keep the intake tube or get rid of it and plug the inlet?  And why?

Not a racer, just trail riding and need to keep the airbox for mud and water, no lid for now, but probably an EHS cover to keep some water out, thoughts on the inlet tube?

And also, thoughts on resonator or no resonator?
Thanks guys!

I run the inlet and stock lid when trail riding in muddy/wet conditions.  I used the EHS on a trailride once when it was wet, took the lid off and saw water standing in my airbox and on my filter.  Not good.  Now I mostly dune so I plug the inlet hole and run the EHS again.

I used to run the snorkel. I cut 1 1/2 inch slot on the passenger side of the lid for more air. Keeping it off to the side reduced the amount of crap landing right on the filter. A strip of duct tape would close the slot. Now run with no snorkel, hole plugged and the slotted lid. Good question on the resonator. Does it reduce noise with the lid off?

i took all that stuff off and just made a airbox lid with Outerwears material so the carb could breathe and the filter stays clean then bought one of the Nac's racing billet airbox plugs for the hole where the snorkel went into the airbox.

I also took off my snorkel. Didn't fit with the axis rear shock. Definitely need the front hole plugged up good though. Water gets in real easy, if that's how the terrain is, and will ruin a good day of riding. NAC's plug works great if you can find one.

Ok thanks guys.  I do have a Nacs plug. I think I'm gonna lose the snorkel, plug the inlet, and run an EHS lid.
Thanks again

Cheapskate tip, the screw on lids to gallon jugs of motor oil, rad fluid, washer fluid, etc etc.  some of them are a perfect fit in the snorkel hole
:stupid:

I think puma makes the pieces to make a ehs copy, just need to get some outerware material and a rubber gasket...
