Super stoked to be a proud owner of an 1987 TRX250R!! Just got it last week, been wanting one since I was a kid, sad to say it took me this long to finally get my ass on the seat!! Rode 4 strokers most my life, didn't realize I was going so slow lol! This R sat for two years, cleaned carb, tank and shes running pretty good, need to get Jets figured out and much more to learn, More to come once I get more time to feel this R out, working sucks, wish I could ride more than I work. Thanks!!

Welcome to the site. A lot of good info and people here. Go ahead and write down every part and mod you would like to put on your quad. Go to the bank and borrow about 3 grand to get started, order all at the same time and install. Your going to do it anyway, so might as well get it done quick and easy. Really your going to have a blast with your new toy.

welcome to the best 250r site. once you get it all the bugs worked out it is extremely reliable. the only weak spot is the OEM ignition and it is suggested to swap it with the cr25or ignition.

Thank you, It is pretty built already from what I was told and can see, does not look stock at all. 265 stroker kit, hot rod crank, bills pipe, fmf silencer boyesen reeds, durablue axle, itp rims and tires pro taper bars, shocks look stock and a couple other stock parts but not much. Going to a friends house who has two R's and he is gonna help me out getting her tuned in. Cant wait to see this bikes full potential. Got a great deal on it $1400 on good ol craigslist.

Congrats on the deal and welcome to the site lots of good info and guys here.

Thanks for the welcome!
Took R outto my buddy's house took quick look and let me know its an 88 or 89 not 87 which I was stoked. I have a question if anybody knows, in my air box, someone blocked off the hole by the air filter with a skateboard wheel, lol. Is this common? Also any suggestions on jetting, its stock Keinin, Bills pipe, pro circuit silencer, Im in Michigan, not sure my altitude lol. Any suggestons would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes some folks block the hole where the intake tubes used to be. As far as using a skateboard wheel, I'm sure that's gotta be a first. Ha. Anyway welcome. Great page with tons of info an great people.

Thank you just getting her tuned in, had some jetting issues and exhaust leaks but she's just about there.

Big problem with these old bikes is gaskets and seals drying up and shrinking. Welcome to our site and don't be afraid to ask any question even though it may be silly to you. We have all been where your at now. Most guys have had any problems you may have had. Much easier to fix if someone has already done the fix. Oh yeah, nice bike!!!

Like Anthony said, blocking off that hole is normal, although using a skateboard wheel is not. lol If you get an extra moment, search for the carb jetting threads. Alot of good info and references to use to help set yours up. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Cool thank you, I actually sold that R and bought this one (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/1508_6499_2017-04-18_7429.jpg) bored over .120 wisco piston, long rod, 38mm keihin, fmf pipe and silencer, all new tires on itp rims the rest is fully stock all original 86! No cracks in plastic or seat all original oem graphics. The top and bottom end was all freshened up running great. I just cant bring myself to do anything else to it I am a sucker for the original 86.

Man, this site has helped me out so much using the forums and all the jetting help I got here, it was a lot easier getting this one jetted right and I have learned so much about 2 strokes and the R all together. Absolute epic quad!!! Epic forum!!!

Seems like we should start a mitten group get together and F it up on our R's fo sho!!!
-
I would have kept the fullbores but had to sell it to buy this one, but I am a sucker for the old school oem, plus I had to sell to buy up.
-
Oh it goes :quad:

I really want to change out a few things, front end rear axle and more, but I am having a hard time pulling off oem off this old original, I am already uncomfortable taking off oem bars and headlight. I plan on getting some led's to replace my headlamp rig job. I will definitely be getting some black or white fullbores and putting up the oem plastics. Definitely more show. Its fast enough already for me, although an ESR kit wouldn't hurt anybody.
