Hello I am at a loss here, I bought another 86r that has a ct310 cylinder with a bad piston. I have all of that fixed but I think the reason it burnt up was because of a ing problem. I got it put all back together this morning and I checked to see if I had fire before trying to start with the plug out and it did, but had to kick it really hard-fast. So I put the plug in and go to bust it off for the first time and it kicks back like nothing I've ever seen ! I mean had to put a riding boot on. I took the stator cover off and pulled the fly wheel, it is new and the stator and the pick up is, it has a red cdi box on it so I took the cdi box off of my other r that runs good. It still has all of the original elect parts on it, I put that cdi box on it and it does not have any spark with it ? but does not kick back because it is not firing. I assume it is firing to soon or something of that sort causing it to kick back so bad, but I don't understand why it has no fire with the other cdi that I know is good. It does not have a adjustable timing plate and the pick up is in the stock location I even tried the other coil to. Could some one please help me, tell me what to try from here. Thanks for your help.

does the stator look oem? if not thats probably part of your problem also dont use aftermarket CDIs they have a reputation for problems. might check the wiring to see if anyone has messed with it. i had a ricks stator once that would only fire with 1 specific cdi i had wouldnt with another even though i new both CDIs were good as they worked fine on another bike. swap the stator next if you cant find any wiring problems.
