Was this done for looks or were you looking for a performance gain?
This should reduce the back pressure and make things a little quieter. Since it cooled down your engine, your pipe was probably over restricted for the power your engine was making. Reducing the backpressure will usually increase the power in the low and mid range. If the back pressure is dropped to much, peak power and over-rev may suffer. Did you experience any loss in peak power or over-rev?
-
I bet it would help quiet it down without a loss of power

I thought it would be kind of cool as something different.....Since I already had two ESR Center mount silencers and an exhaust off of a CRF and I needed the stinger on my TRX11 enlarged...I gave the set up along with my quad to my pipe builder and told him what I wanted.....It is completely out of stainless. The CRF Y pipe was not used but was patterned after...Performance wise I need to do more testing as I have never ridden this quad without this set up.....The way the quad runs right now is tons of bottom end torque and it continues pulling to the top end...I was impressed that there is no 2 stroke lag whatsoever....None...Since I have ridden a lot of four strokes before I would have to say this is the closest thing to 4 stroke power I have ridden...The other thing I noticed was how cool it ran.... After a full night of racing it never once seemed to be getting hot....I spoke with my pipe builder and he is willing to do the complete set up for 400 bucks....That includes enlarging your stinger....(you would have to ship your pipe)...custom made Y pipe...And both silencers....They would be the silencers my pipe builder makes........My motor for now is an ESR PV350 ported ....2mm Stroker crank..cr125 magneto and CDI with a cr250 flywheel...40.5 kehein carb...Race gas dome and a few other lightened internals...
Jerry the only problem i had with over Rev was my fault as right before the end of the straight I would hit over rev.....I should have ran a 14 counter instead of the 13 I had on the quad....this was on a 1/5th mile oval Blue groove track......
-
I've got to go...Getting in trouble from the wife.....LOL....LOL
-
If the 13 tooth sprocket worked good at this track with similar track conditions with the old pipe set up, you probably loss a few rpms off of the top. If this set up pulls really hard off the corners you will not need the RPMs at the end of the straight.
A 14 tooth on the counter shaft will probably be too big of a jump in gearing. You probably need to take one or two teeth off of the axle.

Nice!

Jerry...The over rev problem at the end of the straight with the 13 tooth sprocket was due to the added torque and go it pulled mega quicker and ran out of gear....sure I could have shifted but on a blue groove track I find shifting actually slows me down....If I gear it correctly I usually scream into the turn and pitch the quad to scrub off just enough speed to power thru and out of the turn.... I guess I'm an old school racer....LOL
