Title: stock gusseted frame vs "standard" leager frame (might trade rs)
Post by: Victork on July 25, 2013, 06:16:28 PM
I have a guy wanting to trade me a r with a leager frame, 250r link and its not a narrow frame. My R is nicer and has a 350 pro x, his is a 72x72mm resleeve. His has a 400ex lonestar/tcs standard travel set up, 89 oem swingarm, oem stem. Like i said mines way nicer but i was planning to tear down and powder coat this winter anyway. I have some pics but havent learned how to post on my android yet. What im asking without you guys seeing is, isbit worth trading a r with a better fresh motor, good fullbores and lots of odds and ends for a bike that would be run of the mill if it wasnt for eseentially a stock replacement leager frame and some standard travel tcs? I know this post is a little screwed just try to help lol

That's a tough call. Guess you gotta ask yourself, is your motor and other parts worth more than the frame? My quad has a ton of goodies on it and I'm not sure that I'd trade someone to lose my motor and suspension just to get a laeger frame. Do I want an aftermarket frame? Of course! Am I willing to give up everything I've put into my set up just to get it? Probably not. Just my opinion.

I'm by no means knowledgable about laeger frames but imo if it were me I'd keep the bike you already have & keep an eye out for a nice aftermarket frame than just swap parts. If yours is already dialed & your unsure of the other bike you might get hosed on the deal. I'd be wondering why the other guy wants to trade anyway.

Located in Jersey eh?  That guy has tried to sell me that Laegers before... it wasn't worth what he wanted when I looked into it.

From the looks of it to me, I'd keep your bike.  First off its your bike and I'm assuming you built it to be what you wanted.  Second, if you got that Laeger it looks like you'd want to change it to be what you want... once again see previous statement.

Now if its a frame you are after, then there are more out there.  You are in NJ correct?  I know someone who has a bunch of R stuff and a Lonestar frame.  I'm sure if you wanted an aftermarket frame you could get this one.  But there is nothing wrong with a stock frame if it is in good shape and not all beat to hell.  Many are still going strong, and will continue to do so if properly maintained and cared for.  They are getting older, but you have to realize that most were trashed back in the day from racing.  If you are not actively racing then honestly a stock frame will do for most.  Also that Laegers frame may be cracked and in poor shape... you wouldn't know unless you stripped it, but they do crack and break too.

In all honesty, I feel you're better off keeping yours and if you're dead set on an aftermarket frame, then just keep an eye out and they pop up.

Screw that dude. That thing looks whooped, and that Pro-X 350 is very valuable

Plenty of aftermarket frames pop up around the forums for sale, just be patient

You're in CT, right?  Got any good riding spots?  Always looking for someplace new to go/meet new people!!  Not to mention our riding spots are drying up fast...

Theres spots that are pretty good but in all honesty not worth traveling. My buddy just finished his DM shee and he knows some spots im yet to go to that he says are sick. Ive always rode local spots but im ready to leave the porch a little

I would keep what you have.  However,  I would invest in some quality aftermarket suspension.  It'll make that stock chassis (not to mention you the rider)  last much longer!
