The type of gasoline does not have much effect on the needed spark plug gap.
The pressure in the cylinder and the voltage delivered to the spark plug at the time spark occurs, is what determines the maximum spark plug gap.
The pressure in the cylinder at the time spark occurs when the engine is in the power band, depends upon how well your pipe and ports are working together, not your compression ratio or cranking compression.
As the performance level of your engine goes up, the spark plug gap usually needs to be smaller.
The CR ignitions usually work good at .028" on stock to mildly developed engines.
On some highly developed engines where the cylinder pressures are very high at the time of spark, we have to reduce the spark plug gap to .018 to .020 to prevent miss firing.
