Hi All,
Here is my most recent change to my 250R. If you want one of these the information for ordering is below....its a two-step process, lol.
Step 1: Airbox frame which he makes for the 85 and 86 ATC 250R, contact Pumashine. Overall its a great product. The frame with bolts and nuts is $20.00 which includes shipping.
Step 2: Email Outerwears, specifically, steveg@outerwears.com (his name is Steve Giebel). You need to tell him you want custom part number 100-3839. The name of this number is O/W custom WRRD Airbox to fit 1985 ATC 250R. The price on the material is $21.45 + 15.00 custom fee. Also when you get the material in, you will have to cut holes in the material for the frame bolts. Its pretty easy, I did it by marking where the bolts will go and cutting an "x" in the material with a razor blade.
Pictures below. Thought I would share and let me know if you have any other questions.

Is there any performance difference using the outerwear or no lid that you can feel by the seat of your pants? I would think the intake noise is less.

Looks good! So this is the replacement for the EHS lid mod that they don't make anymore? Would it be possible to cut the outerwear portion from a sheet instead of getting it pre-cut from outerwears?

Does EHS not make this mod anymore? Ordered one for the atv over the winter and he gave me one free
-
I highly recommend this mod if you run an airbox. I use the EHS ones and it deffinately filters a lot out before getting to the pre filter. If you don't have a snorkel anymore and you put that airbox lid on ur starving ur motor for air. If you remove the lid what I was finding was dirt everywhere. With this the inside of ur box will stay clean and dust or dirt free.

Excellent job yaegerb. He is wanting the style I believe. Many threads I've seen where the guys have their wives pick some of that type of material at Joann Fabric for $5. Using the aluminum as a pattern you can cut your own. I was wondering if you needed a hole punch for the bolts to go through. But making a small X to go though you would not need to find a hole punch.

I use a hole punch so it doesn't tear if you cut an x. Puma do you make the rings for the atv airbox?
-
I wasn't running a lid prior to this but I didn't like the fact that material could still get into the box. So the performance will be the same as if I were running no lid at all.
-
Thanks! Yep, I kept trying EHS and Puma finally came to the rescue! You could give outerwears a call and see if they will give you a sheet, BUT when they make the piece they melt some kind of gum around the outside of the material where it fits under the frame and that way the material doesn't fray when you cut the holes out.
-
Great idea. The "x" with the razor blade was as ingenious as I could get that night.

Thanks Puma! You make a great product sir and outerwears came through in usual fashion.

Looks a lot better than the panty hose i have on my lid.

I emailed Steve last night. Haven't heard any thing yet but it's Monday so not surprised it all.
How strong is the material? Does it feel like it could rip easily? The cost is extreme and if they rip easily I may just make my own from the OW sheet.

Material is fairly sturdy....you couldn't rip it if you wanted to. It the same thickness as their pod covers.
