Howdy,
I was out riding over the weekend and:
-after about 30 minutes of moderate to aggressive riding my bike stalled.
-I thought it was the plug, but after pulling the spark plug there was no visual problem. To double check that it wasn't the plug i installed a new one, but this didn't fix the problem.
-I could get the quad to run with the choke on, but it would die 15-20 seconds after turning the choke off. It acted as if it would run forever with the choke on.
During that same trip and about 15 minutes later i got sick of being towed back to the truck by my brother. I started my bike and unhooked the tow strap; everything worked fine (i was riding moderate to aggressively). I rode for about 10-15 minutes until i got back to camp with out any abnormal behavior from the quad.
Thinking that everything might be better and after i had gotten home i tried riding it around the neighborhood and it was having the same problems as before (stalling).
I am coming to you guys to help me figure out what might be causing the stalling.

My first thought is a bad stator. if you can reproduce the issue again, check for spark.
Sometimes when stators die they will work when cold, but when the heat expands them they can short out.

Sounds like a clogged pilot jet or an air leak. I'd pull the carb off, disassemble and clean with brake cleaner and compressed air. It is possible you have and air leak, it's worth doing a leak down, carb cleaner test
Best regards

Also check for fuel flow.. If your tank vent isn't breathing well enough eventually your tank will create a vacuum and starve your carb of fuel.. Pull the fuel line and let it drain the entire tank into can to see if your getting a vapor lock or poor fuel flow..

X2 on the above post.

So...I tried draining the gas out of the tank into a gas can and noticed that when i had the petcock on "on" NO gas came out, but when it was on "res" gas DID come out...I think that this was my problem all along. I was low on gas! Yup...
-
I would like to say that never happened to me but I am a bad liar! Glad you got it worked out. Maybe your top screen in your petcock is clogged.

I once wasted an entire day of riding because my CR250 wouldn't died and wouldn't start. Didn't even think about my gas tank being empty :with_stupid:

Shit happens...... I know a guy that went to the gas station and thought he filled his car. Ten minutes down the road it dies. He has another guy come get him and trailer the car to his shop. He pulled the fuel pump thinking it was shot and found "it ain't got no gas ummhmmm"

I can top all of your gas stories. about ten years ago racing at red bud I pulled the hole shot in the lcq and made it to the second corner when I sputtered out, took me a minute to figure out I was out of gas. flipped to reserve and finished just out of qualifying. drove half ways across the country to beat myself. never forget that one
-
Took the R to the dunes last weekend warmed it up started ripping down the road when it bogged out and died spent 5 min kicking the crap out of it just to find out I never turned the gas
-
I've forgotten to turn my gas on once at a hare scramble on my cr250. Very good lesson

Once in awhile the person working on the bike before may have switched the reserve line with the normal line coming out of the tank. Good idea is to pull the tank and make sure the filter on the inside is not plugged. Double check the reserve line is hooked to the short side of the two lines going into the tank.

^^that would be funny
