seems as though ESR has a new adapter plate that allows for 2002-2007 cr250r ignition system.

im curious how much less performance could be seen between the 01 and up,
-
Why would you think the newer curves would produce less power? I thought the only reason was because the 2001 components have been discontinued.

just always heard that the 01 cr250r had the best throttle response and performance of all the years...
the 01 was also the year of choice for the bikes as well as quads. not really sure how much different timing curve we are talking about, just from talking with cr250 owners through out the years, they have also been chasing the same cdi as us
-
I just assumed it was evolution. In 2001 the adapter plates were made and sold with components readily available. Seems it was the best at that point in time. As time changes it seems that quality would increase not go backwards. Just hoping for the best!!!

The '01 was very good as far as throttle response goes, then the engines went downhill when they went to the case-reed design. So it wasn't necessarily that the ignition was "worse" after 2001

Are you serious those parts have been discontinued?

For sure atleast the cdi is,Im sure the rest is too.

every motor combination has different timing needs, its not as simple as what year is the best for everyone. Your porting, engine size, pipe and dome all have a factor in what your timing needs are.
The whole reason you have advanced timing and take it away as the rpms increase is because the efficiency of the motor increases with rpms so less ignition advance is needed. Not every motor will need the same amount at a certain RPM it all depends on combustion efficiency.
00-01 are so popular because they are the cleanest setup up the 98-99's and 02-07 have extra wiring with a voltage regulator/capacitor for the power jets and I believe maybe a electric power valve, but 00-01 do not have this.
The 02-07 probably all have slightly different curves like all the other years have shown, but that is not to say they are better or worse it just what works best on your motor setup.
I run a 00 cr125 at +1 degree advance for the best performance (proven on a dyno) out of every CDI that will work for the 00-01 ignition system but that does not mean its the best for you.

I just ordered and received from esr a new 01 cr ignition. It obviously didn't come with the cdi but everything else was new straight from honda. I found a used cdi.
-
If you dont mind saying, they have it listed for $550.00, was it the same with out the CDI box.

^^^ he through out the price of $450 and my used cdi was $110 so I said good enough.
