Title: KTM Rod Bottom End Help
Post by: teddy250r on January 10, 2016, 05:52:03 PM
Hey there, some of you might recognize me from some of the other sites, I recognize a lot of names in my searches....hope everyone is well great site.

I have a nice fresh bottom end with a stock stroke crank with a KTM 132mm rod that I'd like to build a play bike with.

I'd like to do a budget ESR 330/350 kit with an in frame pipe.

What would I have to do to make this work as the Ktm rod is 132mm long and a stock long rod is 130.3mm? Thank you!

Teddy

teddy250r - I'm not going to comment on the rod question but literally a few days ago I stumbled on a QOTM thread from the other site with your bike and mine and I almost put up a post here asking if anyone knew where you went!  So on that note - are you still riding / racing (you had a 350/370 that you ran on dirt/sand tracks back East from what I remember)?

Pete@Hybrid is in the process of building me a 6mil Sphynx.  He  suggested i swap the OEM rod out with a KTM rod. I'm sure he will have to use a custom spacer plate. But you might give him a call and pick his brain.

Yes, I still have that bike..it's currently in peices, this is the bottom end for that bike. It was a 370 stroker that went boom and then a Packard 350 stock stroke. I haven't raced in a few years (babies), but I have decided to throw this bike back together and play around with it a little...I kept everything but the Packard cylinder and pipe so that's why I'm going with a cheap ESR type build with an in frame most likely.

Hope you are well, I always loved your bike from back in the planetsand days. You still have it?

I might do that, I did save his number.

That what my thoughts are, likely will have to customize a spacer plate to compensate for the difference rod length.

Its basically just going to be a spacer plate setup for the extra rod lemgth or a set of custom tall deck esr cases would do the trick as well

Yep, a 2mm spacer is what I used with my stock stroke Puma on OEM cases using the KTM rod.

I think Pumashine cut the spacer I used on my ESR 5mill 370 with KTM rod too.
