Hey guys! I've been pretty busy getting our hard water setups dialed in but I wanted to take a minute too start a new thread where I can post post pics and video links to keep everyone up to date that's interested. We have one AMA District 14 Ice race in the books and we turned a few laps today to get ready for the next one this Sunday. Also want to give a shout out to our sponsors Rath Racing, FourWerx Carbon, LED Performance, Fly Racing, IMS Products, Streamline Braking, DWT Racing, Hinson Clutch Components, Precision Racing Products, Hot Rods, Pivot Works, and Dragon Racing Fuels. These are really the best companies in the industry and I'm excited for what's to come from our partnerships with them this year.

Hey thanks John! That's my thoughts exactly. I'm very lucky.

Race Report
Our first race at Owosso Motorsports Park yesterday was hectic but fun! Went out for practice and had a guy come around me on the first lap and spin out in front of me. Barely had time to tap the brakes and smacked into him bending my swaybar. We straightened it out and went out for my first heat but I was real loose and spun out. I had lost my cross weight. I started dialing it back in between heats and was finding some speed. Had to run a couple LCQ's and then had a couple mains that were almost back to back. I ran three different classes. This video is my last race of the day and I had one right before it. My crew chief cleaned my goggles off but not the GoPro so it's not real clear. Lol but I was able to pick up a couple spots from the back row. We ended on a good note with my brother taking another second overall in rubber class! I definetly feel like I'm being out motored.. All of our classes switched to open classes now because the chairman bought a LT500 but I'm not quite ready to go bigger yet. Maybe when I get a little more caught up here I'll see what Arlen has up his sleeve for me.

Cool video Jake! That looks like fun. If you don't mind me asking, what is your motor setup?

It's a stock cylinder ported. Cool head with 19cc dome. Running 110 dragon (formerly torco). Rad valve that I ported. 01 CR ignition. Thanks!
-
Unfortunately, you probably are being over powered. You need a little bit more umph! Even a nice ported would make a noticeable difference. But if you were going to make the big jump, I would go for at least a built 330.
-
You ran a good race and your motor sounded great but honestly you were being out motored without a doubt. 258cc R vs. 450 cc 4-strokers most likely modded just doesn't equal out. You need a 330 +4 stroker to have the confidence in your quad that u need. Personally I'd love to run my sphinx 363 on that same track with them 450 boys. That would be fun. I know you say your not quite ready for a bigger bore yet but by the looks of your riding ability I'd say you are. At least a 330 +4 stroker. Either way great video and nice riding.
-
Didn't look like you were being out powered by much. Clean up your lines and dial in the chassis a bit more, you'll be running up front. I wasn't listening to your motor, but how is your gearing?
-
Thanks guys!

I'm geared down to 14/39 currently because I was having some carb issues and was bogging. It still did bog a little bit Sunday if I didn't keep it wound right up but usually I just barely tap the clutch and it comes out of it. I might go to 14/38 but I'm not using sixth gear currently. I think I need to work on my starts more than anything. I was taking off in third and still spinning. After watching all my film I'd say I'm still a little loose from center off and could probably crank a little more bar into it for more bite. I've never been too tight.. I almost need to crank on the swaybar until it pushes and then back it off a touch and try it. I put it on the scales today and I'm gonna make some adjustments tomorrow. Might need to double check that everything's straight after that hit too.

Part of me wants to win some races with a stock cylinder. I just figured it would be more gratifying that way. It's kind of a goal I set but it's turning out to be a bigger challenge then I thought. It's definetly possible but this class is very competitive this season. I have a new pipe coming from Arlen that he's pretty excited about so I'll see how that goes and my SmartCarb is on its way back from Corey doing some updates on it for me and I'm hoping that will fix my issues.
-
All the changes you mentioned should definitely help for sure. Starts and gearing are the 2 biggest thing that could help you. Pipe sounds very nice too. I know what you mean about the shear satisfaction of beating 450's with a stock cylinder. Those boys would be dropping their jaws at that site. It would be nice to see that. I'm excited to see how your next race goes with your changes. You should do well. Your motor sounded clean. Gearing may be your game changer. Good luck and whatever you do stay on top of those R's.

If you are launching in 3rd and spinning, you will want to work on a few things. Either re-gear or find a better throttle/clutch control combination. Andrew Short (he is a professional motocross racer) is one of the best starters in current mx/sx. He says part of his success comes from 3rd gear starts. He could be full of dookie and trying to throw people off. But the theory is it cuts a shift out and lets you hold hold it in gear longer...but can be abusive on the clutch.
Also you mentioned it has a bog. You should dig into that and figure out the cause. Sounds like you are working on it, but obviously it will help your track performance. Are you lean on the pilot/needle? Have an air leak? Hopefully you are running an open air box.
That does look like a bunch of fun. Do they ever run a full track? Right and left turns?
-
Just curious, what are the requirements of becoming sponsored and what types of benefits for non pro riders like myself lol

Yeah I've been playing with my rear shock compression adjustment as well trying to get it to transfer more weight to the rear on my launch. When you go softer it feels like it tightens me up quite a bit on corner entry though. Gonna keep playing with that and hopefully with this pipe I just got and getting my smartcarb back I can pull a little taller gearing. And just body position and like you said throttle and clutch control. Thing is you can practice starts all day on the lake and feel pretty good about it but go to the track and line up with 10 four pokes and it's a whole different ball game. You can't hear them 258cc's. Lol so it's gonna just take a little bit I think. I had no problem pulling hole shots last year on my brothers LTR. It's part of the challenge with the two strokes. I might take a look at my stud pattern too maybe I can run a few more in. I'm pretty sure it's still sealed up good but I'm gonna do a leak test tomorrow while my pipe and carbs off. The stock airboot is probably holding me back. I've trimmed on it a little and opened up the airbox but I'm anxiously waiting for Troy to finish up his box cause I think that will help me out a lot. The Grand Championship race on lake Pontiac will have a GP course (right and left turns) on Saturday February 13th and oval track on Sunday. I plan on running both. Unfortunately they just cancelled our race this Sunday cause we're expecting rain.. Sucks but I'll have a little more time to work on the setup and save some money. Might just go out and practice Saturday.

Damn that is one super sweet R. I'm in love with it. Allison you have great tastes in parts and plastics are shining. Keep it up. Those 4-strokes boys will get intimidated after looking at that quad. Lol
-
After tweaking everything you've mentioned you should be right up there in the front. Let's see a 1st place. Its very attainable with your quad. And then you can enter into the "best of show" contest. You would take 1st for sure.
-
Our races got cancelled this weekend cause It's gonna be about 40* tomorrow with rain but we got some practice in today. Hard to get a good feel for my suspension adjustments with the ice so soft. But I'm liking the new pipe and having the smartcarb back on. I'm pretty happy with the quad overall considering it's an mx setup with a swaybar. Gonna be a challenge but I think we can get a win.

Yeah definetly. Thanks I do too.

I was just simply saying you will have the best looking quad there. Lol. Its very sharp looking.
-
And the new led pipe definitely colored nicely. This is the way everyone wants a raw pipe to look after breaking it in. Imo

Gotcha. Lol yeah for sure

He hasn't ran it yet.

He hasn't ran it yet.
I'd find out a hall or even a Dr Q zilla is hard to walk on without going really big trust me after having both, a 363 sphinx minimum up to a saber for a drag bike for a well built Hall or a hybrid engineering liger, a stock cylinder won't hang with either.
-
I just noticed how many sections Arlan added to that 350G. It looks much much better.
Any type of coating on the pipe? It almost looks like he's using a different type of steel now

I'm not too worried about it yet. I'm gonna go bigger I'm just trying to put things in place. I need to get my backup motor done first and save up for a trailer. We'll get there guys bear with me. This is hopefully just the start :)

This is the new 250-300 E pipe. He said he found some gains with it and was really excited about it but I'm not real sure about the material. There is definetly a lot of sections in it. The oil he had on it smelled like jb 80 so that's what I put on it.

Our race is cancelled again this weekend and the national that was scheduled for the following weekend has been postponed due to the warm weather unfortunately but we're going up to the Soo tomorrow to watch the fastest snowmobile race in the world.. Taking notes!
-
Strange. I thought there were plenty up in the east getting blasted by cold weather. Hopefully some comes your way soon.
-
Hey guys! Been busy with the new job working 65 hour weeks. We raced last weekend and then cancelled this weekend but went to watch the no bull triple crown enduro snowmobile ice race in Mt. Pleasant. Here's a video from last weekend https://youtu.be/QFLpDVxYJ3Q I found some speed with a tire pressure change and tightened it up with some shock adjustments and more cross weight. Still struggling with my starts. Something always seems to happen like in this one the guy was standing right in my line of sight for the starting light but if I can get a start I don't think I'll have a problem running up front. This week I changed my gearing, made a jetting change, and indexed the screws a little differently for more bite. I'm considering trying a flywheel weight but I don't have a lot of time to test. We have two scheduled race weekends remaining. Next weekend is the national that was postponed and moved to Cadillac. The weather isn't looking real great again we've had a pretty warm couple of days but hopefully we'll get it in. Saturday will be the GP day and Sunday is the oval classes. This will be aired on mavTV Lucas Oil On The Edge. The last scheduled race is the AMA state championships in Bentley the following weekend. Also would like to thank my new sponsors Wiseco Performance and ODI Grips!

Nice ride man. The changes seem to be helping each time out. Are there a couple other R's out there too? That red one looked like it got a pretty good holeshot.

Thanks. Yeah there is a few that run I haven't really had a chance to talk to them but I think there's one other guy with a stock cylinder that showed up to the first couple races too.

Dang sir. Showing them 4 strokes what's up! I am very impressed. Rarely have I seen a guy riding a 2 stroke have more stamina at the end of a race than guys on 4 pokers! I was rooting for ya! That first moto, you kept fighting that one guy for several laps. I was like "git em! git em!." And then passed more before it was over. The motor sounded like it was running well. Looked like you picked a couple of corner lane choices that weren't for the best in the first moto (not critisizing! God knows I do it too). That looked like a close call with the fence in the 2nd moto. It would have sucked to get into that fence. That wouldn't end well! LOL. Well done, sir. Good race, nice videos.
-
Awesome racing! Good job man.
-
Awesome race videos man. Great job :redbull:
-
Good job, congratulations. Looks like you have been working hard getting in shape. Doing a lot of cardio?
-
They pushed you around a few times in the 2nd moto & you still walked on them. Nice job!
-
Thanks guys! I actually had quite a bit left in me in both motos. I knew I had five laps to get it done so I found some patience and it worked out. The second moto after I passed for first I didn't know if I had made it to the front and didn't know if I should conserve and not make any mistakes or keep digging so I was looking to my brother for a sign and didn't get one but I did end up winning both motos. Last week I wasn't so patient and I ended up getting in a wreck in the second moto.

I actually haven't been able to do much cardio because of my knee but I'm not in bad shape. I get gassed but power through and try to think my way through the moto. My motor is do for a refresh and down on power. Can't complain because I can't even count on both hands the number of times I've had the temp gauge pegged from the radiator packing up with sand, or sucked in water. I think not having the power on tap is actually tiring me out more because I'm having to work the clutch, shift, and try to carry speed through corners that much more. Should be fixing that within the next couple weeks though.

I completely agree with your last couple sentences. When I was racing my 310 pv motor, I was having to still work a fair amount harder get what I was wanting from the motor. Now with this 363 motor, I have actually geared it quite high and I can stay in each gear a bit longer and don't use the clutch near as much. Yes, the bigger motor with more power CAN wear you out faster. But if you learn to work it right, I found it a bit easier to ride and get what I wanted.
-
Right. I have one more stock cylinder build going then after that I'm thinking of going to a 310.
