Title: Esr additional porting
Post by: Grande huevos on January 30, 2016, 09:34:16 AM
I have a cylinder that has his 9 port and I've heard that even his hand ports aren't "top notch" I Am assuming that I can send it to Someone and have them do there thing to get me a little more power? My question is how much more power could I get and would it be worth it?   I would like to stay with that mid range power as well.... I've been kicking the idea around for a couple years now, and I'm getting ready to bore it and install a new piston so I figure now is the time to do it.  Any suggestions on who to send it to? I need to have it back in my hands by March 1st

Eddie is a 2 stroke engineer.. His prices are very affordable and keep cost low for customers.. The porting/hand clean up porting he does, is priced cheap but does have performance advantages and yes there is more power to be had out of the cheaper porting..but if you talk to Eddie and tell him you want a $350-400 port job like we pay others builder Eddie can produce power I've SEEN it personally. One of the fastest drag 350's I seen was built and ported by Eddie him self..  But we can't expect Eddie to spend hours hand porting cylinders for a $100 bucks.. Trust me if you pay him he can make power. You don't machine, fabricate,R&D and design for as long as Eddie has, to the extent that Esr does and not be able to make power. But power is not free or cheap... Good luck on your upgrading....

Even Arlan will tell you Eddie is a great motor builder. I had my esr redone by Jerry Hall, and it was night and day difference. He is very busy but his work is worth the wait.

Yup completely agree with this.  ESR is more in the business of selling motor parts than *building* motors.  But offers those "econo" port jobs as something a bit better than "out of the box."  Either pay him for a true port job or take it to another builder that specializes in building motors.

I had the same cylinder and really was not happy with the power it made. I sent it to bubba ramsey and wow what a difference!

Where are you located at? You might also try giving Pete at Hybrid Engineering a call he does really good work as well.

Or you can send to BDT to get cookie cutter porting. :carlos:They only know how to copy so its proly not worth the price. Your time requirement is going to be the biggest disadvantage. A good porting job takes hours to do in even the most knowledgeable hands. Take before and after pics so you can observe what was done and the time question will be evident.

It was only a joke. There are no motors we have seen that back up the claim of 60 HP on a stock cylinder. But if you ask a builder like Eddy or Pete at Hybrid you will definetley get more HP out of the same cylinder if you are willing to spend the extra cash. Pete tells me its $250 for porting and $500 if you want to get serious.

I've had 3 esr ported cylinders. 2 trx 9 hand port and a trx 11 hand port, it worth the extra money to get the extra porting, they all kicked ass. I'd say send to hybrid, k&t racing, jerry hall, Led racing, Packard racing or Matt shearer if you want to get the most out of the motor.

It's been 3 years since jerry hall did my old 350 pro x but his price was about the same as pete's. Sorry f'ing iphones. When I picked up my 350 build he stayed a hour after closing just giving tips on my build and even four stoke builds. He's another top builder.

This is what I've decided to do with my 330 for now and I'm going to build a new complete 350 over the next year.  I spoke with bubba yesterday and he seems like a good guy. He's going to port my 330 and fit a new piston as well as cut a custom dome for me.  I can't wait to get it back and feel the difference
