My front sprocket has some play in it if you try to wiggle it towards the motor and back to you and it doesn't seem normal to me.. It has been like this for some time and it hasn't had any effect on performance and has never come off but I'm spending a lot of money building a new motor and trying to get everything right. Is this normal or is there supposed to be a spacer that sits between the motor and sprocket or something?

The spacer is usually built into the sprocket and faces the motor so it spaces the chain away from the motor. The sprocket should go on so there is a bit of it protruding off the end of the shaft. The washer on the outside is cupped to hold the sprocket tight.

I must have the wrong washer then because the sprocket does have the built out part your talking about but it's always had a big thick flat washer on the outside.. You would t happen to have a part number for it would you? Or a size of I can just buy one at the hardware store?
