Title: stator
Post by: meathead on March 10, 2016, 09:07:37 PM
Howdy. Well I changed out my stator and it runs great. Broke my damn clutch lever tilting it up on its side to work on it. It's useable so I took it for a test ride. Pretty wet & muddy out there. Now I have spark when I hand crank it which I didn't have before. And it would not start in the cold. But now it kicks back something fierce. it's a real challenge to start hot. Before I could start it sitting down. Not any more man. I wish I could do something about the kick back but I don't think their is. Is there ? Switch it to stop and switch it to run right at the right time maybe. It's really annoying Any ideas ?

Did ya try pushing  the kick start  all the way down an let  it raise up about  half way than  give it a good stomp that usally  helps

I have heard this happening before on bikes that have a key way that has been smashed a little. If the flywheel has been forced by a backfire or some odd circumstance the key on the crank gets sheared/moved a little causing the timing to be off. All you have to do is pull the flywheel and inspect the key way for an odd shape or indentation. If its fine then check the pick up to see its not loose or moved.

Thanks But the problem is that everything is as it should be it's all in excellent condition.

Then i guess you  could  try a adjustable timing  for thre counter balancer

Well that is really cool thanks. Looks like there is a remedy for my problem. I would think my ignition timing is slightly advanced by the way it acts. Could even cause detonation But I didn't hear any going on. Cant say as I've ever heard detonation on a 2 stroke engine before. Yeah this looks like something I might have to invest in. Thanks again

if everything is excellent condition and stock, then theres no way ur timing is advanced, unless something isnt quite right. i would pop the flywheel again and double check if ur key has sheared at all to throw ur timing off a bit.

Well I've checked everything and I can't find a problem anywhere the key is perfect. Everything is installed correctly. I don't know it's by me why it kicks back so bad. It is an aftermarket stator that I installed. I might have to try that timing adjuster thing. Because this is a real pain in the ass. And ankle.

My bike got  a nasty  kick back when the  compression went over 200 and the only  thing that helps me is the way i mentioned to kick it. I also put my weight on the kicker to not  let it come back up. The only  other  real option is to imo is to go with the cr ignition

Yeah the only problem is no headlight and I can't have that.

Led light  to a small battery . There  is a lighting coil available for the cr. Do some thread search for cr ignition  an lights  something should  pop up

Put in a new stator fixed the problem. I also put on a new CDI unit as well. That was a mistake. It kicked back so violently that I could only get it started a couple times. Once with an advance timing lite. @ 3 degrees advanced. Close but no cigar. MISTERELECRICALINC is who I got the stator and CDI unit. The stator brand new for 52 $ 100 $ off. Not bad. I've heard about bad things with aftermarket ignition parts for these. They didn't want to give me my 50 $ for the CDI unit at first but after explaining the situation they decided to give me my money back. So now my wheeler starts in the cold with the lights on. 1st or 2nd kick every time. It's truly a wonderful thing. This stator is a good one apparently. My stator compartment was clean and dry. Don't know just a bad stator I guess.

Howdy Yeah when I put on the new stator I went and bought a new CDI unit and installed that as well turns out the CDI unit was the reason for the violent kickback. I managed to get it started with an advance timing light what I got was about 3 degrees advanced right from the git go. So there is my reason for the violent kickback. I put the old stock one on there and it fires right up no matter if the headlights are on or how cold it is. It turned out great. I got the CDI unit from MISTERELECTRICALINC. They didn't want to give me a refund at first but then after I explained the situation they decided to refund my money Which is pretty cool of them. So i'm stylin now man real happy. This thing runs real strong. The engine has never been opened up. Still on the stock bore. So when it comes time for a top end rebuild i'm gonna put on a 86 ported, punched out .100" and a .010 copper head gasket. A new pipe and a set of V-FORCE reeds. That ought to give me a few more ponies. I'm shooting for 185 psi kicking compression. @ 13.5:1 comp ratio. That's as high as I can go and still run pump gas without detonation. I really don't want to mess around with race or AV gas. Regular old 93 octane fuel ought to do the trick. Yeah i'm very happy about how it turned out. My ATC 250R started in subzero weather with 1 or 2 kicks. I was actually unaware of the ignition problems associated with this TRX 250R until recently. The stator compartment was super clean and dry. Just had a weak stator. Anyway it's fixed now Might just have to go for a putt tonight
