Hello all. Guess I needed to move this thread here. Son just bought a very nice mothballed 85atc250r. After going over it and installing new jug, head, piston, we got it running. And WOW is this thing FAST! First worry I have is temps. After 10-15 min of hard running (is there any other kind?) 50° or so ambient temperature, head/cylinder is195° radiator top tanks is 175° lower tanks 145° water pump 175°. What is normal range for this three wheeled rocket? Although why it has three wheels is beyond me. As the front one only seems to be for parking! Worrying about when temps are in the 100s! Lotsa work to overhaul! (Dad's job).

Those temps seem fine.  210 is a little warm 220 is danger zone above that your working on a meltdown.

i dont agree that a temp of 210 is bad at all. some may argue with me but 210 is a normal operating temperature and theres nothing wrong with that. i monitor my temperature all the time. i also monitored the temp of my banshee that i had for many years. the banshee always ran in the 210 range and i never had a problems with it. my 363 runs a little cooler but i have had spikes up in the 220 area after a hard run. again never had any problems. even when i had severe detonation problems i never got much above 230. your fine running at 210-220.

Well thank you all for the info! As for pics, while I can usually fix anything with a piston (s) I'm a computer bozo. So, if I can peel one of my sons off of one of several two strokes or three wheelers that reside here, I'll get pics of all of em!

A.f.g. here, well, as it usually goes, time to spend $. It tossed the bottom end. Sorta figured it would. Lotsa trash went through it on previous top end failure. Piston pin clips came out with standard results. We flushed and hoped. Epic fail. So, bottom end time. Who has best deals on crank kits? I've done the rod thing on other less popular bikes, but usually ends up costing the same or more than a kit. Any suggestions? Thanks, a.f.g.

Hotrods cranks are 200 from rocky mt atv I think.
