I'm looking at upgrading my front suspension from +2 Lonestar sports W/ Maultech Gt Elite shocks, to a Long travel +3 setup probably with Fox Floats. I've found a good package price w/ DC4 arms and brake lines, but don't know anyone that has ran these arms on an R. looking for any input from people who have or have had them.
-
I have them on my R. I have ran and raced them for a couple years now. They work just fine and are very easy to adjust. Not sure what else to tell you other than that. Make sure you get the correct shock lengths to go with them. The shocks will need to be 19.25" long.
-
I have a set of dc4s the correct length is 18.75 ex 13.5 compressed. I recommend running 88/89 250r spindles. The 400ex gave it a significant amount of bump steer.

I think you might want to double check that. Lonestar website says 19.25 extended, 13.35 compressed.

I don't understand your question John.

I dont care what their website says. I have the bike on my bench and have cycled the suspension. It will not even compress to 13.375 without binding the tierod, and 18.75 extended gives the bike 13" of ground clearance. Even that is higher then I would prefer. If you ran 19.25 you would have to be way deep in the travel to make the ride height even close to correct.
-
I'm not trying to upset ya bud. If that's what you like, go with it. But I ordered my shocks and a-arms at the same time. Axis, Maul Tech atv, and Lonestar all seemed to agree that the correct shock length is 19.25, which is a common size that fits several other a-arms as well, I believe.

as a suspension upgrade.

as a suspension upgrade.
That would be an awesome upgrade! But very expensive. LOL

Maybe there are different gen of arms. They have changed the look a couple of times. Wayne set the bike up when it was new the peps that came off it were 18.75, Im building axis now. Axis calls for 18.75. I have done my homework. I always cycle my own suspension after I ask the shock builders for specs to double check it. This is one of the first frames, where axis was right on. Had nothing to do with what I like. This is the way Maul/Derisi/Gt thunder etc tell you to set up the chassis before you have them build shocks. Im not upset wither. Im just reassuring you, Im not guessing on this.

I may be wrong on this one. I just called Axis, and they did indeed say that their build specs (for mx) were 18.75 ex and 13.5 comp. I also got off the phone with LSR who swears up and down that their numbers are accurate and have used the same specs for 20 years. One of them is obviously wrong. lol. I would never want to give anyone bad information, so I will take my shocks off tonight and measure my chassis as well.

Checked my measurements. Can't speak for the other styles, but the newest style DC-4's definitely take a 19.25 length shock. Tape measures shows 19-1/8. Then add in half the diameter of the bottom bolt, and you have 19-1/4. And no binding of the tie rods.

Thanks for the input guys. the package I'm eyeing has 19.25" Fox Float shocks. I run a 21.5" front tire w/ 19.5" rear, so I may very well have difficulty getting my ride height set. My rear sets real nice at 7 5/8" with the front near 8". (currently 7 3/8" rear with my standard travels only holding 7.25" up front). I'm fine with an 8" ish ride height as the riding we do is more XC than MX. (fast trail riding in the Oregon dunes mainly). I was more concerned with fit, finish and adjustability. and was hoping to see a pic or 2 of them on an R.

take a look at my build threads to see pics of the arms installed.

It can also be as simple as a variation in tire size. Say your on 20" fronts and some else sets the chassis at the same extended/comp lengths. Now the shock dimension changes. I always set mine up for the smallest tire I will use. Like I said its always worth double checking. Also I think the newest arms are even different then the ones you have there.

Yes, that is true. My measurements are based off of mx size tires(19 inch front), and I think that is the assumed intended information that LSR lists on their website. If you were running larger tires in the front, then those dimensions would be less. Axis's specs may actually be based off of a 20" front tire instead of a 19" tire. If I remember correctly, 19" is a relatively new size tire for mx , where 20" has been around for a long time. That would account for the 1/2" difference right there. Good point.
I didn't realize they have updated the design again. Do you have any pics?
-
Im pretty sure the newest ones out loon like the 450r arms.

Just get the a-arms and measure for yourself using Maul Tech's instructional video. I wouldn't go off of previous measurements from older generation a-arms. Measure for yourself and you can't go wrong
