Hello there.
As the title says, I'm looking for an 88/89 frame for a TRX 250R. If someone has one that's willing to sell, maybe we can do business.
Keep in mind I'm from overseas, so it must be shipped to my country.
Thanks.

How much do ya think it would cost to get one shipped to you ?
-
Well, a few years ago I paid 130$ for 3 exhausts, 1 Power Commander and an air filter from California. I guess I would pay around that for the frame, maybe something more, I'm not sure. It mostly depends on the weight.
-
Interesting. I got a quote to ship a frame from nj to cali for 140 ish. I have 2 frames but i think it would be cheaper for you to get one from the west coast. Any specific year frame ya lookin for ?
-
It's kind of weird that it can be cheaper to ship from the West Coast because East Coast is a lot nearer to Portugal, but sometimes it's just that way.
I'm looking for an 1988, since my quad is from 88, but, for what I read, the 89 fits also.
-
Pontas, I think the frame you have now is an 87? not a 1986 because of the engine mounts, but it looks like it has a steel swingarm, which would be 1987, the 88-89's had aluminum swingarms.

Yeah looks like a 87

Searching by the VIN number, I saw that it was from 88... Also, the VIN is located where the 88/89 usually is, but I can be mistaken... Oh, and I know now that this quad has parts that didn't come with it (the swinger is being a pain in the bu.. to take out).
-
your pegs bolt on correct ? thats what it looks like in the pic , can you post better pics in this thread ? it would suck to buy the wrong frame being so far away.
-
It's an 88 if you look it has the rear engine mount for the frame, it looks like someone put in an aftermarket 86/87 swingarm.

I took some pictures. Hope they help.

I see why ya want a frame
-
A-arms, spindles, hubs & rotors look like OEM 86. Swinger is OEM 86-87. You can make a spacer or cut the top tabs off an 86-87 rear engine mount to fill the space between the bearing collars. Looks like the rear seat mount has been cut off the frame as well.
-
So, I have an 88 frame, or part of it at least, and all the rest from 86/87... That's good to hear...
-
That is a butchered 88/89 frame. Someone cut it up to accept an 87 swingarm. If you want to keep it an 89 frame, you will need to get an 88/89 swingarm or figure out a spacer. The 88/89 swingarm were solid all the way through on the pivot, didn't have the cut out like the arm you have there. If you go with an 86/87 frame you will need the bracket that fits in that notch. The bracket is the rear motor mount.
Also you will need foot pegs, or pro peg nerf bars. OEM pegs are not welded on like the frame you have there.
-
I'll probably go with an 88/89 frame and get an aftermarket swingarm. A-arms and the rest would be new anyways so, no worries there.
-
Honestly I like the stock 88/89 swingarms. They are aluminum. Nice and light
-
Only today I had the chance to check my engine's number. It's an 88, so I will need an 88 frame and swingarm.
Any help will be appreciated.

Your motor will fit in all 86-89 frames only the frames changed
-
Yeah, I know, but as the frame and the motor I have are from 88, I would like to build it as an 88/89 quad. ;)
