Title: High idle still.
Post by: yugyagz on July 07, 2016, 06:42:53 PM
I have a 39mm keihin. It has 170 main. 600 feet above sea level. Was missing idle adjusting screw so I purchased one and it still idles super high when I start quad. Doesn't matter where I have idle adjuster. Same idle. I've cleaned carb. Reset air screw. Seems that when I put I'm gear it drops down. After I run a bit it settles. Any help?

Needle is middle clip forgot that. I just don't know what else to check. Maybe not even carb issue? I haven't done a leak down and know I need to.

Is the cable adjusted so the slide sits as low as it can in the carb ?

I do not know. But will check. Thank you. How do I adjust it?

Just adjusting the cable itself by the thumb

Yep . Adjust it so there is a lil slack in the cable. An adjust the idle screw out .then start over adjusting the idle

Your PWK probably has an adjuster in the top of the cap as well.

Possible reasons for high idle. Air leak, improperly adjusted cable, too small of pilot jet

Are you guys talking air leak on carb itself?

You can turn your air screw out to see if the idle goes down. If it does, then your pilot is too small.

Just the opposite , turning out allows for more air , you would be correct on a four stroke carb .

So I adjusted throttle cable and helped a ton. Then it seemed that when I adjusted my air screw more towards closing it was a low idle. Then it shot up like crazy fast so I shut off and moved back to wherec it was. Think I'm good now. Still trying leak down test. The plug I bought won't stopped leaking in my exhaust. Gonna try a different one tomorrow

when im installing a new throttle cable i always (not runnung) give it throttle the let go to see if i hear the slide hit the carb. that way i know the cable isnt holding it up off the bottom
