I've had this together for a couple of years now. So glad I didn't listen to all the horror stories about these. 87 TRX250r with a 86 CR500 engine.

Dang I like that machine. Have any better picture of it? The videos are a little choppy

What did you do to take care of the vibrations from the 500cc Monster ?
I think that is the key to all these 500cc Trx conversions.

Well I'm not sure, I've never ridden one before I built this one so I don't know how it compares to other builds. What I did do was a lot of research before I began the build. The route I choose was to tie the top and bottom rails together with square tube, all the motor mounts are kept as tight as possible to the motor. I did not use any of the original 250r mounts other than the head stay which I modified to the cr500 engine. But It still vibrates. It's nowhere near as bad as all the stories I've heard and it's certainly not something you can only ride for a short time. This is what I ride 80% of the time I go to the dunes, I have a 88 TRX250r a 87 Quadzilla which are both exceptional bikes but this is my favorite.

has the frame cracked at all?

Yep. Early on I was chasing cracks mainly the sub frame which I used gussets on. But the biggest challenge has been the rear grab bar. Aluminum does not work. I made one out of steel and so far so good.

Nahhh....You did it right....Banshee motor in a YFZ needed to be done!!!
I just hope that PANTHERA makes the motor mounts the same as the TRX250R mounts so that it will bolt right up to everyone's 250R based Quad.....and NOT force them to buy a 450R frame.
Time will tell which way they go.....it would be great if they utilized 450R parts so they're easy to obtain....but the goal should be to be for a 250R based Chassis....and truly make it the 250R's BIG BROTHER!
:D

I just saw this on Facebook this morning. I will be looking into this. I would be more interested in this if, like you said , it bolts into the 250r frame. That would be the ultimate.

you already got a 450r chassis ready to go! :)

You have some beautiful riding out there, that Pilot in your other video is fueling my temptation for one.
-
The one I built would vibrate the rear grab bar and break it of with in an hours ride , it takes some serious vibration to do that .

Even in the two wheeler frame there is plenty of vibs . I would recommend riding a trx 500 before building one . I was told not to do the build by a honda guru mechanic that had built one and I didnt listen . live and learn .

No thanks Fred my hands fall asleep fast enough already without doing that.

I would recommend if you seriously want to build one of these do a lot of research, check all the forums there is a ton of info on this build. Both what works and what doesn't. Go into it with realistic expectations, if you think you can build one and it won't vibrate don't waste your time or money. Money is also something to consider, if your buying all the parts needed to build one you would definitely be better off building a big bore 250r. I went back and forth on building mine for a few months based on all the horror stories about these builds, things like you can't ride them for very long , your hands go numb, not true in my case. Not only is this build not for everyone, CR500's are not for everyone. I have a CR500 AF that some of my friends have ridden and they don't like it because of the vibration. When I decided to build mine part of the decision to do it was based on the fact I pretty much had all the parts including the engine already so I have very little money into it. Super glad I did it. It's not the fastest or the most badass quad. But it does what I built it for, excellent low end grunt for tree shots just like a four stroke but the big bore two stroke hit that I love.

i built mine in 1990 and we didnt have the resources , like the internet and forums . I rubber mounted it using the eyelets off the front shocks of trx . the frame never broke but the grab bar did 3 times before I got rid of it . Ct made the pipe and Allan said it would run the same as it did in two wheeler , that was not true by any means . My project was a total disappoint as was the people I knew that had done it before . Im glad you are happy with yours but I would still recommend not doing it .
-
It's funny how the grab bar and subframe seem to get the most vibes. The first time I took mine to the dunes the whip popped out with just a rev. That was a sign.
(I still love it)

Got the confirmation yesterday my cr500 e-start conversion is complete and shipped out. Can't wait. I'll post pics and a video when I'm done.

That is sweet. Looks clean and simple. Especially good for a quad so u don't have to kick ur fender. Are u going to leave the kicker on there? I wish my 450er had both.

Still going strong. Has not been getting as much love since I built the Zilla hybrid, but glad I ignored all the horror stories about building a cr500 quad. Love it
