Title: What cylinder kit
Post by: Fireball on October 03, 2016, 02:11:34 PM
Hey guys got a bike I'm looking at and can't tell which kit is on it. The owner doesn't know much since the mods were done before he bought it. He did say it is a 350. Puma, Sphinx, old gen esr? That looks like some kind of modified stock cylinder to me.

That's an OEM cylinder. Not 350, not Puma or Sphynx either

The guy swears it is a 350. I didn't think u could get 350cc out of a stock cylinder either. Tough gamble for me to buy sight unseen and ship...

My hopes were up that it was the fabled "hondaris" or "polonda" motor LOL. That would have been cool as

Looks like someone just ground the casting imperfections off of it. I wouldn't trust it.

Looks like a stock cylinder but it has the taller rear base studs like the cp cylinders

Looks like a modified stock cylinder to me.  If if is a 350 the bore will be too close to the studs unless the studs have been moved.  Most of the exhaust port is still air cooled.  Any cylinder with 21st century two stroke technology will have have a water jacket around the whole exhaust port.

Probably. But I'd stay further away from the seller of this bike.

How would it be modified so the rear base studs are taller?

They weld ears on to the base  they do it all the time to the lt500's.

I would  be interested in seeing more pics /  better pic of the rear side of cylinder.  As for it being a stock cylinder 350 with no spacer plate for the longer rod or what piston it uses to make it a 350.

If that really is a modified OEM cylinder than someone put a serious amount of work into it & it looks like they did a great job smoothing & blending every weld they had to of laid down on it. From the center of the cylinder forward it's all filled in & the area below the rear spiggot is also heavily filled in. It actually looks like it's larger diameter at the base too. I wonder if this was an early prototype cylinder for one of the big bore cylinder manufacturers or if it was just a backyard builder with talent. It looks interesting, can you get more pics of it?

I can if I buy it lol. Still debating on that one. The story is it was built by a retired Honda atv dealer who he'd recently sold his shop. Sounds unlikely but that is all the info this guy will give. I asked him about the guys ( builder) contact info and he said he doesn't have it anymore. It has an ESR pipe on it.

Here is another pic. Bad angle but it shows quality in my opinion. U can see the gasket looks new. All bolt heads match and are not rounded and a cool looking skid plate not to mention the high dollar bling parts on it. Can't say I've ever seen those foot pegs before either. (http://forums.trx250r.org/vbulletin_imports/1858_8183_2017-04-18_688.png) There is a missing pipe mount though which would not mean quality...
