Title: 250R Powered 450R chassis Retro Build
Post by: Langbolt on November 29, 2016, 10:58:54 AM
Well, since it worked out once I had everything put together....it was time to tear it all down.....Powder Coat everything in the RETRO '86 Color scheme and re-assemble.

Just picked up the Frame this morning....Let the assembly begin..... :)

For now I'm going to use my 275cc Powerplant....it's the only motor I have with a Honda Cylinder....I may drop in my Pro-X 350PV at a later date.....I want it to look like an '86-'87 Motor for this build....the +4mm Stroker Crank is only given away by the space plate. :)

I'm having a hard time finding a Honda Gold in Powder Coat - Prismatic Powders has a "GOLDTASTIC" that might be a match....trying to find a swatch to know for sure before I powder the Swing-arm 7 A-Arms.

But I really like the "Brassy Gold" as it's over a "Super Chrome"....It looks amazing.

Made some progress....I powder coated the rear subframe....the '86 was RED....so this one has to be too! I stripped down the Swing-Arm and an A-Arm....My Powder guy says he CAN powder coat a Stock A-Arm with the ball joint intact...Just have to remove the rubber boot and grease....So I'm gonna give him one and see if this is true!....Fingers crossed.

I tried powdercoating stock arms before, didn't turn out too well! Removed boots and grease, but it looked like there was some plastic in the ball joint that melted out. Ball joints were loose after. Good luck!

I was afraid mine were going to do that too.....but Dan @ Flashfire Coatings said....not to worry....he's done a-arms before with great success....he was right!

Looks fantastic!!!!  I went the same proper color scheme on my 86' R.  Matched the frame as close to the OEM red as I could and the a arms and swingarm the OEM gold..

If I had money that's what I'd do!  I always thought gold hard ano wheels are legit...and pricing isn't bad. I've paid to play
