Some big changes coming this year for my 2017 racing season. Currently the bike is getting completely disassembled and gone through. I have pretty much finalized all my support for this up coming season and I am extremely excited to say the least.
Here is a list of the supporters that are going to help put me and my machine at the top.
One of the biggest changes is my partnership with Arlan Lehman and LED racing. We are working on an XC racing package specifically for me. I cant tell you how excited I am about this. We have already spent a couple hours discussing the upcoming season and engine requirements for both of us.
If you guys haven given LED a call, I highly recommend it. Arlan is a class act and even was willing to spend time talking to me in depth when I was riding on other equipment.
LED Racing
Motowoz Suspension
Fourwerx Carbon Jason R Conti
Spider Graphics
Rath Racing Daryl Rath
Oneal
IMS
Rekluse
Hinson
Uni Filter
Sunstar
KOQ Racing Tom Trompen
New paint scheme for this year as well as new graphics. New engine/pipe.
Only a couple months away from the start of another great racing season.
Build pictures and updates will be coming soon.
-
Wow that's a big change! No wonder your posting it overy here! Good luck! Glad to see you join the choir lol
-
That's awesome that you and Arlan are partnering with each other. I have heard great things about Arlan and his race motors. Good luck, Loren
-
Burns you looking to sell your plastics?
-
Now why would I sell my plastics haha
-
Well you said "Big changes" .. :). Lol
-
I'm still waiting for your full report on that Koq/Motowoz no-link. Mine should be done and ready to ride in about a month.
-
Your right Mike, I never did post that. Let me tell you its worth every penny. Tom reinforced my swinger and its been great. The suspension has so much more travel than the stock linkage. And its so much more plush. Its near what my CR500 link feels like. id say 80% there. I would have never believed that a no link could feel this good. Ignorance on my part mostly, i hadnt been on one. But its 10x better than my stock link.
The KOQ swinger is a great design at a very affordable price. Talking to Jim at Motowoz, he has told me in many different conversations that the KOQ geometry is the best there is. Just make sure he reinforces yours like he did mine.
-
I think mine is a standard 88' version. What does yours look like?
-
Mine is a 86 front. And a gullwing.
-
Kyle how did the stock air box work out with that setup?
-
This is Simply the Best news I've heard in awhile! You'll love working with Arlan. There isn't a 2-stroke guy in the business with more experience building XC 2-stroke motors.
This should be a good year for the XC 250r. Mine's pretty much ready to go
Good job Kyle look forward to hearing more.
-
Mine is a gull wing too but I don't think there's any special gussets or reinforcement.
-
Ya i bent my first one within 30 minutes of racing woods. But thats me. Im hard on parts.
As far as Arlen being good for me. Duh... We all know Arlen, his reputation speaks for itself. haha. Im just stoked he would want to work with a small time guy like me. The honor is all mine for sure.
-
Few more sponsors. A pic of my new pipe and a start to my graphics kit thats not finalized yet.

kyle, nice to see you are going to LED. a top 3 engine builder in the country.
I hope you win every race.
john
-
well i bit the bullet today and bought a LED transmission and ESR cases. This engine should be bullet proof with all the parts that will be making it up.
-
Sounds like things are coming along. I hope to switch over to the KOQ swinger and Motowoz shocks one of these days. Sounds like a great setup!
-
Suspension wise it is so smooth. I recommend getting the brake anti rotation pin relocated like mine, as well has getting the heavier wall thickness on the tubing. Actually just tell him you want my exact swing arm. Just need to specify what year its for.

Looking pimp Kyle. Can't wait to see it all finished

Looks great Kyle!!
Good luck this season!!
Can't wait to read some race reports!!
Maybe a little comparison between "builders"...?
-
Sorry, I wont be talking about past experience. Just about whats in front of me. Arlan and I where just talking tonight about how glad we are to be working together this year. We both expect good results this season and will have a lot of fun dialing the setup in.
-
Sorry, I wont be talking about past experience.
I wasn't so much referring to your dealings with you know who but more of a motor comparison.
If you can't, no big deal. Just figured I'd throw it out there.
Thanks
Jesse
-
Ya, i just dont want to do that. I want to seperate my self from the past and look foward. I know that my new XC motor will be way better than my last one.
-
Not a problem. I completely understand and applaud you for taking the high road as well.
I guess it's just my fascination with your move that has me asking. Maybe it'll come out in the future...haha
In the meantime, welcome back to .org!!
-
Think I'm gonna have to pick up one of those JD front ends. I just like them too much not to get them.
-
Arival from LED.

I'm surprised u are going with an Esr cylinder instead of a sphynx. Reason?
-
Sphynx are hit in miss from what i have seen. Some are low deck exhaust and some are high. I had a low deck one that run really hard for MX. A high deck one is hard to get to run well at mid range and low rpm. I have been told by a couple builders that they can get the same hp from an ESR easier. Arlan wanted to run ESR with our new builds, so I said okay lets do it.
-
I have heard the same for a long time but builders have had a hard time making those statements public because of their sales $$$$$ they would rather push the cpi vs let you know how good the esr is. I am glad to see arlan and esr having a good business relationship. That is good for both and the long term 250r product future imo.

Good reasons. I've been wanting to try a nikisil cylinder. My old pro-x 330 had a really soft sleeve. I was told by a former Esr mechanic that the hardness of the pro-x sleeves had a wide range. Hopefully esr's new ones are better.
-
Definitely best to go with Arlen's suggestion.
-
I will miss the Nikasil. That was the only drawback i can think of really moving to an ESR. I had some issues with one of there early on 330pv bolt on kits. So lets up they had that figured out to.

You can always Nikasil the esr cylinder...

Some updates from a late night int he shop. I also have an ESR clutch cover and water cover in blue. I havent installed due to not having gaskets for the water pump cover and needing to do some clearancing on the quick change for my auto clutch. Also im supposed to have a blue head, but didnt get that from ESR yet.

Heres a little size comparison from a stock piston to my big 81mm piston.

You running a 350G or D? I was thinking of trying his hand coned D on my xc bike and putting the G on the duner.
-
Im running a G currently.
-
Kyle is that a stroker or a stock crank?
-
Stock stroke.
-
Interesting engine u are building. 81x72 makes it 371cc. Any special set ups for this? Do the cases have to be bored larger than they normally are for a 78mm piston? Any special mods on the crank? Balancing?
-
The cases do have to be bored larger than for 78mm. Arlan has been testing this setup and has had really strong results on his dyno. He says its lots of low end torque even without the stroker.
-
Do you have a pic of the swingarm?
-
Sure. FYI i mounted the skid plate. It doesnt come with mounts for one.

do you need the skid plate with the rotor/sprocket guards?
-
I dont like the rotor guards that slide on the carrier on they can bust your carrier and leave you stranded. I wish i would, and still may buy that rotor guard that bolts to the pinch bolts. That would give the most clearance.

good point.
-
Mine doesn't have those gussets above the shock mounting bolt. Looks like ur brake stay pin is about 1/2" higher.
-
Keep us posted on your engine performance. I have been interested in this same setup for a dune motor but have been worried about how thin the aluminum around the sleeve is when the bore gets this large.
-
Put some finishing touches on last night. Just need my nerf bars to show up, few more graphics to apply, rear mud plugs, number plates I will be posting a video of the first start as well. So be looking for that.
Also my 350D pipe showed up today, so i will be doing some side by side comparisons of the 350d and 350g for those that care.

Was just curious what your thoughts were on the 350D Pipe vs 350G Pipe?
