Let's see how you guys tow with fifth wheels, goosenecks you name it.

I decided to try a newer pickup. 2016 3500HD duramax. We shall see if it can live up to the good old 2001 Lb7 duramax.

Sweet sixteen and never let me down!
Love that body style. '06 was the last classic looking, fairly simple GM truck.
I just wrecked my '04 gasser 6.0. Gotta try to find another one :(
-
Don't forget about the '07 Classic, Tbone. That was the last of the "cat eyes" as I call them.

Yep I like those.
I was checking out prices for 04-07 GMC and Chevy 2500HD or 3500HD on AutoTrader........13 year old trucks with 120k+ miles for $30k+. These prices are ridiculous. This is the Duramax models of course.
My 04 with 58k was $15k back in 2012. Of course it was a gasser, but 7 years later and equal condition trucks are double the price.
-
Yep, it's ridiculous. I'll be driving my truck until one of us is no longer running lol.
-
I only have pics of the back half of my truck. 😂 2006 D-max. Had her since new.
-
Found a pic with the rest of it.
-
Had this thing for quite awhile....Cant bring myself to trade it in as I'll never get another 7.3 with a 6 speed....

Love those model year Chevy and GMCs. I've gotta travel way way out of Ohio if I want something that clean.
-
I posted my 01 on craigslist today. After I wrote the add I checked it out and was like wow that is a cool looking truck lol
-
Purchased today

I couldn't take the grandpa look any longer! I leveled my truck and got new wheels and tires.

Finally replaced the old '04 GMC that I wrecked.
2012 Ram 3500 Laramie, 81k, 6.7L, deleted, 4" turbo-back. I love this thing.

Ryan, get the air bag kit with the air compressor. I cheaped out on my other truck and didn't get the compressor. What a pain in the ass.
-
While the compressor is nice, I have air bags on two of my current rigs and one past rig, and they only need air added maybe twice a year, even though I check them every trip. As long as they don't leak they are fine. The volume is so small, I carried a bicycle pump to top up the bags if needed.

I inflate and deflate my bags evey every time I tow something. My 5th wheel has 3500lb of pin weight. So I add 40psi after I hook up to the trailer. No way would I drive my truck around with 20psi in the bags. It would knock your teeth out every time you hit a bump lol
-
Thanks guys. I pull that trailer maybe 6 times a year (wish it was more). There’s so much sag in the suspension that it just looks so squatted in the rear. Minus the headlights pointed up, it pulls and drives great, never really even feel it bottom out. So haven’t pulled the trigger on anything.
-
Ya, My camper is probably only 1200lbs. but the springs on my truck (63" springs Chevrolet C 1500) are so soft that I get vibrations from the rear axle tipping unless I run 30/40lbs. in the bags. It probably has to do with the quality of Washington hi ways also, they really suck. Our Hi ways are so bad that Kenworth has a computer program to simulate the I-5 areas between Olympia and Marysville as part of their quality control used when they design their trucks.

It sure does. I've driven a few non-tuned 4th gens and they don't compare.
Only bad thing about mine is I don't have a clue what tune is in it. The tuner didn't come with it. I'd really like to figure out if I have a trans tune, as this has a 68RFE trans that operates just fine right now. It seems to shift similar to my buddy's identical truck, which doesn't have one.
-
68’s are great as long as you don’t have the bug to make big power. 48re swap is the way to go for that.

This is what I've been reading as well. I have zero plans to make anything over stock power. I just want it fully deleted, which it is.
I've read that a good trans tune will really help the longevity of the 68, just have to figure out if I have a trans tune in mine or not lol.

You got it Tbone. Great towing and dd Trans. Good tune to up the line pressure will help it live a long life.
