Title: Carb Slide
Post by: zcarlson12 on February 28, 2017, 09:01:52 AM
Has anyone ever had this happen? I was riding last weekend and all of the sudden I could only push the throttle a 1/4". Took the carb top off and there was the piece sitting in the groove of the carb casting. Took it out and rode it the rest of the day with no problems but couldn't really figure out why it happened. It looks like the tab is some sort of stop for the slide. I bought a new one from Carb Parts Warehouse for reference next to it.

I have not seen it happen, Zak. It looks to me like it may have just been a bad casting.

Can't say I've ever seen that before. Maybe someone repeatedly played around with it in the garage and repeatedly let the slide slam shut from full throttle? Other than that i'd agree it's a weak casting

You use an aluminum or steel idle adjust screw I'd wager...

Yes I do. Plastic one broke and had an extra brass one. I see you've ran into this problem. I guess I need to go back to a plastic one?

Yep, I went back to the plastic screw after that.  I'm really counting my blessings it didnt stick the slide WFO or find its way past the reeds.  The above pic shows where I found the slide piece, caught in the reeds.  Was climbing gravel hills and felt a hitch in my throttle and she wouldn't idle anymore.  It was toward the end of the day anyway, probably rode it another 30 min with that broken picece in there!

Ya idle was definitely an issue afterwards but as long as I was in the throttle it was fine. My piece stayed right in the casting divot so I got lucky. I guess I'll start looking for a plastic one, thanks for the tip.
