Title: 88 Winter Rebuild
Post by: dlunn on August 03, 2013, 03:38:52 PM
I was going to post a build thread for this but could never find the time so I'll post pics of the completed build.  This is the third 88 250R that I have had since 1996 when I purchased my first one.  I always wanted to build one up with a bunch of aftermarket parts, and a built motor, but being from Canada cost was always a major factor in not doing much to my first two 250R's.  For the most part anything I did to them was mainly bolt on parts, but I never did anything with the motors or suspension.  Like allot of people life and family caught up with me and I had to sell my last 250R in 2002, but I said to myself that I would find another one sometime and rebuild it.  Fast forward to 2010 and I was really wanting to get another 250R, so I found a really nice 88 from another forum member in Indianapolis. My best friend and I drove the 16 hour round trip to pick it up and it was at that point that I started accumulating parts for a rebuild.  Everything that I bought was done online or from other forum members.  This past winter I stripped it down and added a Pumashine gusset kit, powdercoated allot of parts, replaced every seal and bearing on it, complete rebuild of the motor and cleaned everything up.  The only thing I didn't do myself was the porting, shock servicing and powdercoating.  I made several trips back and forth across the border to get parts since allot of people don't ship to Canada and prices here are allot more $$$.  It was a true labour of love and I enjoyed everything about the rebuild.  If my wife new how much money I had in this she would kill me:apthy:, but to me it's worth it.  I hope everyone enjoys the pictures, and thanks for everyone one all the forums that helped answer questions.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.  Overall I'm really impressed with it and the biggest improvements over stock are the suspension setup and Neil's porting.  I now see why everyone suggests to get the suspension done before motor work, the difference is night and day.
