Title: FORUM Suggestions & Updates
Post by: havinnoj on May 17, 2017, 01:18:11 PM
All - it's been a process moving to an updated forum platform to avoid security vulnerabilities that vBulletin was plagued with.  I understand there is a learning curve as a user so thank you for your patience and support!

With that said, I want your feedback and suggestions for things you'd like to see changed or implemented.  Some items may just not be possible but would like to open up the discussion on this thread.

Thanks in advance.

https://stopforumspam.com database.  There should be an available SMF plugin to incorporate it.  That alone would majorly cut back on the spam here.

Thanks
Joe

I can't seem to get the show unread posts since last visit to work. It always says no new posts but when scrolling through there are.

Thanks Joe.  Will look into this option.  In the meantime I've added a couple of additional authentication and verification questions upon registration and first posting.

Ryan, any thoughts on a late night guy that could be a moderator?

A Moderator who is typically on the site in the PM time would be a nice thing to have.  Another spam post today, but new spam registrants have stopped since you added authentication.

Can I suggest a purge of the member list?  there are quire a few registrants that are obviously spam posters / data miners that have registered within the past 2 months or so.  viewable here:  http://www.forums.trx250r.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;start=0;desc   all those new ones with website URL's are definately spam.    a little cleaning there would go a long way with  future spam posts IMO.

Thanks
Joe

Joe - good suggestion.  Feel free to throw out potential moderator candidates, though you should be included for consideration as well.

Who asked the question about "new replies at the top?"  You can change this by clicking the "Profile" link at the top of the page --> under "Modify Profile" you want "Look and Layout" --> show most recent posts at top.  Or I believe you can access directly through this link: http://www.forums.trx250r.org/index.php?action=profile;area=theme (http://www.forums.trx250r.org/index.php?action=profile;area=theme)

Running in to a small issue,  wondering if there is a fix for this one.  When I go to check messages, it goes straight to the 10'th page.  I don't have that many messages, so have to click on page 1 to see the active ones.   http://www.forums.trx250r.org/index.php?action=pm   any fix for this?

Thanks
Joe

Hey Joe I have not ran into that issue and can't reproduce it using IE.  What device and/or browsers are you using?  Anybody else having a similar issue with PM's?
A quick test would be changing (and then changing back) your PM settings here:

That fixed it OJ.  The box to show recent ones at the top wasn't selected.  All fixed now.  Thanks.

Can you edit the chatbox to remove the clean all button?  that should be simple, and it's quite annoying.  thanks.

Not by default but I can explore this.

What does the Clean All do?  Remove all messages for the local user?  It's not a default option but I will explore how we can possibly remove it.

It removes all messages for all users.  Makes the chat box blank, and if using a phone, when trying to zoom in,  it's very easy to accidentally hit that button.  It should be as simple as removing an onclick event in the javascript.

Thanks

Thanks Joe.  Will be checking into how to delete this.

And in other news - @croat1 has accepted a role as a moderator on the forum!  Thanks for your continued support Joe!

I believe this functionality already exists.  On the homepage under your username, there are two options "Show unread posts since last visit" and "Show new replies to your posts."  Let me know if you're looking for different functionality and I'll explore potential options.

That is good to know. My suggestion would be to make it bigger and/or have a new/latest posts for those who haven't logged in. Really nice feature to quickly see all the new posts/threads.

In all honesty I haven't busted the site much since the last major update, just because of this. Now that I know about the function I will visit more, but I think having a on option for those who haven't logged on will increase traffic

Best regards
-Jason

I tried on my iPhone with Safari and didn't seem to have an issue.  Any other info you can provide that may help me troubleshoot, let me know.

I tried a few options and no luck - you can post links to pic hosting sites. I'll look into this more.

Old forum links from before the change over are broken, even the old main forum link http://www.trx250r.org/forum.php .  It's possible to make them redirect to the current forum URL's.  This would help improve SEO, and might make it easier to find links on google.  the vbulletin issues really hurt the page ranking, and dead links aren't helping the issue either.  If you need any assistance doing this, let me know, it's not the simplest thing to set up, but can make a world of difference.

Thanks
Joe
