Title: How to keep new fenders nice??
Post by: supernutt on June 04, 2017, 03:08:28 PM
Just put on my new maier green fenders.  Does anyone have any tips or tricks on keeping them looking all shiny and nice?  I know scratches can't be prevented but I mean like preserving the shine?  Thinking car wax?

Maybe some clear 3M sheets/paint protection sheets in high wear areas?  maybe a sticker kit?

I have used Honda Pro Honda Spray Cleaner & Polish on my 450 plastic (when I had it).

also, if riding in mud clean off ASAP.

I have a decal set on it that covers a lot but just want to take care of these the best I can.

Might be possible to clear coat them so they can be buffed and waxed.

I used one of Neil's tricks on a set of old faded fenders put ZEP floor wax on them and buffed them out.  Shined them up nicely.  I don't think I would want to do that to a new set of fenders though.  But it has been holding up great on some 30 year old OEM white fenders for probably 3 years now.  Not sure if any kind of automotive type clear coat would stick to the fenders or not.

The clear coat would have to have a flex agent mixed into it & it might not be crystal clear after that. Besides the plastic would have to be scuffed for it to adhere.... Another option would be to get a headlight polishing kit & when they get dull or scuffed you can polish them out. Since there already new & shiny it wouldn't take much buffing. I've been using Meguiar's ultimate compound & a 3M headlight kit to buff plastic & it works very well: http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/products/g17216-ultimate-compound/   https://www.amazon.com/3M-39008-Headlight-Restoration-System/dp/B001AIZ5HY

Maybe if I just keep up on them it won't be too bad.  I guess I am just used to dealing with 30 year old faded neglected fenders. This is the first set of new fenders I have ever bought.

I have heard of that but never tried it.  I do use pledge on my tecate 4 as it really brings out the green.  I will have to try that. Thanks for the tip
