Post by: hickwheeler on December 27, 2017, 12:32:23 PM
Hello guys I'm thinking about getting a new 38as carb for my 350pv build. Would like to hear from someone that has one with this size motor. I know I'll loose topend.

That is what is on my 330. But I'm trying to concentrate on mid range with the 350. I ran a 38as on my cr500. It ran really good through the mid range. But did die out up top. Just bouncing around ideas

It's difficult to completely answer your question. It a bit more complicated than that. First of all, let me just say, you can run any size carb on any size engine and it will run. With that said, it really depends on your target purpose for the engine and what you want to get out of it. Will you run mx? XC? general trail riding? duning? Do you want absolute maximum horsepower? or just a good running engine? What rpm range is most important to you?
If you answer these questions, we can really offer better, more helpful info. And yes, I have ran this carb on my 363 mx motor.

Well I'm not going to go this route right now. I'm going to put a lectron on. Got to play with one this weekend and really like how easy it was to tune. It also just ran really good so I will see how it goes.

I'll try to find his official explanation, but Arlan seems to point people away from the A/S and towards the PWK. I run the 38 PWK on my 350 for XC riding and don't have any complaints

I've always thought that an air striker was simply a quad vent pwk. I could be wrong...

That's odd. I spoke with Arlan last week. He said running the A/S on my big bore was fine. He did mention, you need to match it up with the correct needle jet. He suggested a CEL. Which I thought was too lean. But what do I know.

It is, but it also had signal veins on the inlet that help with the idle circut.  I believe Arlan thinks they generate to much signal pulse strength.    I do not have this problem.  I run a 38 A/S on both my 363 and my 370 right now.  Both run very hard.  I have a 40.5 i have been meaning to throw on for testing, but honestly  I dont really want anymore power, so it hasnt been a priority.
