Hello all I’m looking for a recommendation on some good tie rod ends. These will be used on a Gibson long travel front end set up.any guidance would be greatly appreciated..also what size lower shock bolt should I be using?the Oem bolt is too wide in diameter.also what are people doing to make up for the space in the shock mount when using a smalle4 diameter than Oem bolt?

Never ran a Gibson so can't comment on the bolt or specific nuances (if any) with tie rods. The couple of times I have ran different tie-rods than shipped with the A-Arms I used ones from Walsh. I always prefer ball joints over heim setup in the sand due to reduction of quicker wear and no squeaks.

Interesting on the lower bolt.. If you use a smaller bolt then it will be loose inside the shock. Are you against drilling the mount out to fit the OEM bolt?

I was trying to avoid drilling out the hole because I just had the arms powder coated.as for the play in the shock bushing I was thinking of a piece of metal tube stock to make up the space.im not sure if what I need is available but I’ll try and sort it out..I spoke to the guy at walsh about it because there arms used a smaller bolt too and he didn’t have an immediate solution.

Dang that surprises me. I'm not sure what the point of using a smaller bolt is, but a bushing of sorts like you mentioned should work.
If you do end up drilling it out, use several layers of electrical tape over the hole and it's edges. That has always helped me when I don't want to "fray" a finish around edges.

Honda tie rod ends. Get a bushing made if required... ID/OD and cut to length

Thanks for the advice Miles and Joe..

Anytime buddy. If you have any trouble finding a bushing send me the dimensions and I will try to help you locate one.

Txt me the bushing dimensions Steven & I'll make some for you on the lathe. I got stainless, mild steel & aluminum on hand.

Sweet thanks.kevin..

OEM 450r tie rod ends are what I use.
The ID/OD of the bolt hole on the a-arm and the lower shock mount should be identical. Unless you're missing a part or bushing on the shock. Should be an M8 bolt?

Are you sure it’s not the PC causing the bolt to not fit. Is the bolt itself coated? I chromed all my bolts many years ago and they wouldn’t fit afterwards. Had to take the chrome off the shoulder area of the bolts. You may just need to scrape a bit of PC off.

I’ll take a measurement but it seems to be a lot smaller.im running axis shocks with Oem bolts, on other arms they mount right up.
