Title: PM Box Structure
Post by: jcs003 on January 23, 2019, 11:53:01 AM
can the PM structure be changed?  It is set up in an odd way that resembles a standard thread.

Thank you,

John

Noted. What's odd about it?  What would you like to be changed?  I can't guarantee anything but happy to take a look for you guys.

Noted, so what would you like to see changed?

The layout is a different than say vBulletin forums where you click: 1 to open the PM and then reply on that page or make another click to another page to reply.

SMF is setup to show the message at the top of the page WHILE also showing your other PM's for easier navigation (less clicking "Back").  The "Quick Reply" is currently at the bottom - but you can also click "Reply" at the top of the PM itself.  This is pretty close to vBulletin functionality.

Taking me way back!  Not sure I can even remember how that layout was. I'll see if I can find out.  But not sure what options we'd have to re-arrange this.

Alright I don't remember my password on ATVriders so can anyone help describe what it was?  I'm guessing you clicked "Private Messages" then taken to a new page with a list of individual PM's, you click on a particular PM and it takes you to another page to answer it?

Basically yes. You clicked on the PM and it opened up a thread with every message and reply in the entire conversation. On the last couple PMs I've received I can't view my reply, so I really have no clue what I said back to the messenger.

Like this. But it is a vBulletin forum.

Thanks guys - that takes me back.  I'm not sure what structural modifications we can make to exactly mimic that.  I will say though that the initial PM page is pretty similar (while it shows content of a PM at the top) it shows a list of PM's below that (like the vbulletin one).

Additionally, if you'd like your old replies to be saved then simply hit the "quote" button instead of reply.  If I'm hearing what some of you are saying, you'd like the "reply" to just "quote" everything anyways?
