i have a crack under the motor on the frame.. what is the best and easiest way to fix this problem?
-
Get it apart to gain access to the crack and weld it, get a gusset kit and repair all the cracks in the frame, if it's cracked there, it is cracked in other places. Check the sub frame mounting, swing arm pivot bolt area, engine mounts, seat mounting areas, and all the shock mounts. they all crack, after all they are 30+ years old.

Looks like you'll be needing a Pumashine gusset kit.

I Just saw your pictures, >:( looks like the frame was repaired (poorly) before. Your choices are limited, strip down the quad and access the damage, or take it to someone that can. I would cut out that section and start with a new piece, but I can't see the rest of the crack/frame. by the looks of it, I'd think you have more cracks than that one. Or depending on the other damage that may be present, shop for a used frame, repair and add gussets to it, and transfer everything over. Look at the swingarm also, they are known to crack too.

When I did my frame I bought a length of 7/8" square tube as it is almost exactly what honda used. I then cut the cracked tube sections completely out and replaced them with new. Then used a pumashine gusset kit. It turned out fantastic. If you try to patch or weld up the cracks it will just crack again. Loren

i have repaired a couple frames the exact same way The norm has described. just cut out that section and replace it with a new tube. contact Pumashine for new lower motor mounts. might as well do the other side while your at it. no sense wiping half your ass. know what i mean?

Let me know if you want a chopped piece from a factory frame. I’ll hook you up.
My first R was way worse. Had a great time tearing it down and finding a new frame to use. All thanks to awesome crew here on .org!

Gonna get the piece cut Out for you this weekend hopefully. Super busy here but pulling that frame down will be the most enjoyable task I have planned on my off time haha. I’ll shoot you a message once it ships out.
Second person to get a piece of this frame. I’m ecstatic that I didn’t throw it out and it’s helping another R fanatic.
